In a pathetic attempt to recover some of last season's record high attendance numbers, Dartmouth club hockey offered free admittance to the general public for last Sunday's game against Colby-Sawyer College. It didn't work. The apathetic nature of the Dartmouth club hockey fans remains a serious concern. The symbiotic relationship between Clubber and fan has been irrecoverably severed; as Dartmouth continues to pound its opponents week after week, fans continue to stay at home. The only attendees besides the season ticket holding Zamboni driving guys were several girlfriends of the visiting team. And sadly, the recycled Varsity Senior Day banners that hung all around Thompson Arena were admired only by these few lucky souls.

Dartmouth club hockey hosted its annual tournament, named after legendary defenseman and club founder Sasha Kraev '01, in November of last year. Usually a popular event among fans of the team, this year's turnout saw a significant plummet in numbers. Last year's record high of 447 audience members fell to just three in what can most easily be attributed to the fickle nature of Dartmouth club-hockey fans.

Coming into the 2004-2005 season, the prospects looked bleak for Dartmouth club hockey. Suffering from the graduations of inspirational captain Jon Webster '04 and team bruiser Anthony Balsamo '04, and the deactivation of the Dartmouth club hockey BlitzMail account, very few could have accurately predicted a positive outcome in this year's opening game.

The Dartmouth club hockey team put on a valiant display of textbook-perfect play for all in attendance at Saturday's game against the Massachusetts Maple Leafs at Thompson Arena, but that did not keep a staggering 10-3 loss from becoming reality.

Proving that last week's victory was a mere aberration, this past weekend saw the Dartmouth club hockey team revert back to its familiar losing ways, dropping games to both Babson College and the University of Vermont.

The Dartmouth Club Hockey team finally left Thompson Arena as actual winners this past Sunday. Despite Dartmouth's laid back approach and apparent lack of formal attire, the Clubbers still managed to reduce their suit-wearing competition, the Boston Junior Blackhawks, to shambles with a final score of 6-4.

Following their win over Tuck last fall, the Dartmouth Club Hockey team granted their opponents the opportunity of a rematch this past Sunday. And what a rematch it was. As the Clubbers have always been wont-to-do, they defeated themselves. As if blowing their 3-0 lead towards the end of the second period was not enough, they then proceeded to allow the game to disintegrate to a final losing score of 6-5.

Last year, the Dartmouth Hockey Club finished with the all time best record in team history with ten wins and thirteen losses. After a lousy first half of the season, the Clubbers recuperated and barreled their way through the second half, winning seven of their eleven games during the winter term. Despite the recent success, this year sadly looks set to be one of substantial rebuilding due to notable losses in both management and on the bench.

The lights grew dim and Thompson Arena's sold out crowd hushed as U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name" began to gradually crescendo in the mind of every spectator present. Flag bearer, Anthony Balsamo '04, stepped onto the ice and into the center of the flashlight-powered spotlight as the audience erupted in a deafening roar. Followed by the Dartmouth Club Hockey players, Balsamo skated 3/4 the perimeter of the rink waving the green flag with utmost pride before collapsing in a fit of nasty coughs. Unable to regain composure, Balsamo went home and tragically left the team to play their final home game of the season bruiser-less.

The Golden Age of Dartmouth club hockey stumbled, fell on its face and broke its nose Friday night as the longest winning streak in team history came to a heartbreaking end at the hands of the Babson Beaver club team. The 9-3 defeat also marked Jacques Gerbille's first loss as Dartmouth club hockey head coach. Gerbille visibly lost his temper long before the game ended, leaving the bench halfway through the first period and never returning.

This weekend the Dartmouth club hockey team earned a pair of impressive victories over Colby Sawyer College and Castleton State College. By no means an event to be taken lightly, the two wins, combined with last weekend's triumph over the New Hampshire Community Technical College, resulted in the first-ever three-game winning streak in club team history. This organizational landmark also indicates a clear sign that the Clubbers are at last developing a sense of unprecedented team cohesiveness that certainly bodes well for future games. "With two solid victories under our belts this weekend, the team is on its way to a solid finish to the season," commented team captain Peter Hanbury '03.

The Dartmouth Club Hockey Team lost 10-9 Sunday to the Berlin Jr. Kings at Thompson Arena. In a highly offensive game punctuated by many big hits, the team fell behind early on three quick goals. The clubbers responded with a power play goal by Josh Clause '05 and an even strength goal by Roy Small '04 to pull within one, but late in the first period, another flurry of goals found the Club Team down 6-2.
