In 1970, Dartmouth baseball set the Ivy League record for consecutive wins with 21. Over 50 years later, Columbia University came to Hanover riding high on a 19-game streak, hoping to break that record. In addition to preserving the legacy of the 1970 Ivy League champions, Dartmouth’s 2022 squad was looking to earn its own spot in the Championship Series. While the Big Green was not ultimately able to qualify for the postseason series, the team defended its record and secured a victory in the Columbia series to close out its season in fairytale fashion on May 15.

Fifth-year senior attackman George Prince has put together one of the greatest careers in the modern era of Dartmouth men’s lacrosse. This season he led the team in goals with 25 and assists with 19. His assist tally ranked ninth amongst all Ivy League players, making Prince the first Dartmouth player since 2015 to be in the top 10 of an offensive statistical category at the conclusion of conference play. On March 19 against St. John’s University, Prince also became the 23rd Dartmouth player ever to reach 100 career points and the first since 2010. Now sitting at 122 points for his career, Prince is the 17th highest point scorer in the program’s 96-year history.

The Washington Capitals have signed hockey goaltender Clay Stevenson ’24 to a two-year entry-level contract beginning next year, the team announced on March 28. In the meantime, Stevenson will finish the spring term remotely to travel to Pennsylvania and play for the team’s American Hockey League affiliate Hershey Bears on an amateur tryout agreement until his contract takes effect.
The men’s hockey team played a best-of-three series this weekend against sixth-seeded Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the first round of the ECAC Tournament. Dartmouth won the first game of the series, but lost back-to-back heartbreakers on Saturday and Sunday to end the season for the Big Green.
The men’s hockey team capped off their regular season this weekend with a road trip to New York to face off against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Union College. Dartmouth was unable to skate away with a victory in either matchup, losing a third period lead to RPI and falling in overtime to Union.
This week, the men’s hockey team played three games, two against Princeton University — one home and one away — and one against No. 4 Quinnipiac University. The Big Green took care of business against Princeton, completing a season sweep, but fell to Quinnipiac for the second time this year.
The men’s hockey team went 0-3 this week in a series of tightly contested matchups, two of which were against top-25 opponents. The Big Green fell 2-0 to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 3-1 to No. 23 Harvard University and 6-3 to No. 14 University of Massachusetts Lowell.
The men’s hockey team had a busy week as it played three ECAC games in four days, all of which were decided by a goal or less. On Wednesday, the Big Green played Union College for the first time this season and lost 3-2 at home. On Friday, Dartmouth bounced back in a big way as the team traveled to Ithaca for the highest-ranked opponent left on the schedule: eighth-ranked Cornell. The Big Red was coming off of a thrilling overtime victory over No. 1 Quinnipiac, but the Big Green was not phased. Dartmouth battled to a 2-2 tie through regulation and overtime and then claimed the victory in a shootout. The next night, Dartmouth traveled to play Colgate and dropped the game 2-1 in overtime.
The men’s hockey team picked up one point last weekend over the course of two ECAC home matchups, tying Clarkson 5-5 then losing in a shootout and dropping the game to St. Lawrence 3-1 in regulation.
On Friday, the women’s hockey team faced No. 8 Yale University for the second time this season. The Big Green showed significant improvement from its 8-3 defeat in New Haven two months ago but was unable to come away with the victory, ultimately losing 4-2.
Just past the midway point of the regular season, the women’s hockey team is on pace for its best record in eight years after an 8-10 start. Some credit is due to breakout stars such as Sydney Herrington ’23, a first-year transfer from Northeastern University who was recently named ECAC player of the month. The key to the team’s strong start, however, has been its overall player consistency. The Big Green has 13 goal scorers this year, yet no player has more than six goals. This unity amidst the chaos of the pandemic is the work of head coach Liz Keady Norton, who was hired in May.
Playing in its first official games since March 2020, Dartmouth men’s hockey opened its season at Thompson Arena with a pair of losses against Harvard University and the University of Connecticut on Friday and Saturday.
