Two days ago, I walked into Collis bright and early in the morning to find about six people huddled around the television watching the Tour de France. Being a recently-converted Tour de France fan myself, I stopped to see how the race was shaping up in the 16th stage. I stood there for five minutes, and as I turned around to go get my egg-and-cheese sandwich, I realized that another ten people had done the same thing I had and stopped to watch.

Game seven of the NBA Finals marked a true classic in the history of basketball, as two teams gritted on through 48 minutes of play. The San Antonio Spurs were just a bit more terrific down the stretch, routing the Detroit Pistons 81-74 and taking their second National Basketball Association crown in three years.

This past weekend the men's golf team competed in the Ivy League Championships at the Ballyowen Golf Club in Hamburg, N.J. Drilling in a final round of 380, the Big Green took sixth place after playing 54 holes. The golfers were disappointed with their performance, as they said they believed that they did not meet their true potential.

The women's golf team traveled to Connecticut for the Yale Invitational this weekend, finishing seventh out of the nine schools at the two-round tournament.

The Dartmouth men's golf team enjoyed success at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association championship this weekend, finishing in fifth place of 46 schools. While this was a positive finish for the Big Green, they were not satisfied, they said, as they know that they could do better.

The men's golf team suffered through a tough tournament at Yale's Macdonald Cup Saturday. Hoping to come together and play a solid weekend, the Big Green finished with two rounds defined by consistently mediocre playing.

This past weekend, the men's golf team competed at the Army Invitational and had a somewhat disappointing finish at sixth place among 15 schools. Matt Uretsky '07 finished atop the Dartmouth golfers, shooting a 72 in the first round and a 74 in the second round to fire a 146.

A hole-in-one by sophomore Annie Daher was the highlight of a strong finish in the Huskie Classic held in Northern Illinois this past weekend. The Big Green finished fourth among 10 teams. Daher, playing against the wind on the eighth hole, used a four-iron to hit the green and have the ball roll smoothly into the hole.

In the past week, Big Green women's golf has gone out to prove a point: despite the fact that they are small in numbers and are have inexperience playing against them, this is not a rebuilding year. Dartmouth women's golf is here to play.

After a rained-out Bucknell Invitational, Dartmouth men's golf opened their season this weekend with a strong showing at the Dartmouth Invitational. The Big Green finished third out of 14 teams to start in an impressive fashion heading into the 2004-2005 season.

A third-place conclusion at the Ivy/Patriot League Challenge Sunday, May 2 brought a solid finish to an up-and-down year for the men's golf team. In a combined effort to combat the sub-par play of the spring season and to honor senior captain Jeremiah Daly's commitment to the team, the Big Green compiled a score of 314, matching Harvard, and giving them a total two-day score of 643. Army went on to win the tournament that was located in Somers Point, N.J., with Bucknell finishing second.

This past weekend was a big one for both the men and women's golf teams, as the men prepared for the upcoming Dartmouth Invitational while the women concluded its season. Fairly good weather allowed solid conditions for the tournaments, although the men and women's team had drastically different results.

The men's heavyweight rowing team was able to bounce back from last week's loss with a win against Rutgers and Boston University in Cambridge, Mass., this past weekend. They beat these two teams for the fifth consecutive year and won the annual Bill Cup.

The annual Dartmouth-Yale race was held in New Haven this past weekend. It was the Dartmouth men's opening race, as well as the first race showcasing the Olympic Axe Trophy, which marks the winner between these two rivals. With ideal racing conditions, the Bulldogs just edged out a win against the Big Green, taking the race by two seconds, as the final times had the Bulldogs at 5:35.00 and the Big Green at 5:37.00.

Both the men's and women's golf teams opened up with solid starts for the beginning of the spring season. The men competed at Yale last weekend, while the women were at Boston College. In the matches, it became apparent that both teams could be looking for excellent finishes at the Ivy League Championships, to be held Saturday, April 17.

A month's worth of gritty play and a strong team effort earned the women's basketball team continued wins over winter break. With a record of 5-6 entering Ivy League competition on Saturday against the always tough Harvard Crimson, the Big Green looks to showcase its depth and talent in hopes of winning an Ivy League title and thus earn a berth into the NCAA tournament in March.

With an impressive incoming freshman class that ranks with the best in the nation and a brand new assistant coach who is more than familiar with the Dartmouth system, the Big Green women's basketball team seems headed for a promising season. This weekend, Dartmouth opens up against UNC-Charlotte, a very quick and worthy opponent, at the Seton Hall Tournament in New Jersey.

They started a tremendous 4-0-2, and after Tuesday's loss against Northeastern at home, they are looking at a 4-7-2 record; a seven-game losing streak.
