This week I sat down with the softball team’s Kelsey Miller ’16. Miller plays third base and started 39 out of the 40 regular season games, batting .216 through the season. In the 2015 season, the softball team won its second consecutive Ivy League title, earning its second straight NCAA tournament berth.

This week I talked with Big Green softball’s Morgan McCalmon ’16,who is one of the team’s top starting pitchers and has put together a 10-2 record with an ERA of 2.43. The team will compete in the NCAA tournament this weekend after sweeping the University of Pennsylvania in the Ivy League Championship Series.

This week, I talked with men’s Nordic skier Patrick Caldwell ’17. Caldwell had a historic winter season which he capped with a national title in the men’s 10K Freestyle race at the NCAA skiing championships, helping the Dartmouth ski team place sixth at the event, an improvement over last year’s finish.

The beginning of May presents two milestones for the Dartmouth sailing team: one month until the ICSA championship and the thawing of Lake Mascoma. Over the next weeks, the team will have plenty of opportunities to fine-tune technique and break in a brand new fleet of boats as the women prepare to defend their national championship and the coed team looks to improve on last year’s third-place finish.

The men’s lacrosse team (1-8, 0-4 Ivy) dropped its sixth consecutive game on Saturday, a 13-10 loss to No. 17 Princeton University. Last season, the team upset the Tigers 10-9, but this time around, the Tigers (7-4, 2-2 Ivy) came out firing, ripping 31 shots in the first half en route to 53 in the game.

The women’s lacrosse team began its season with a dominant 15-7 win over the University of New Hampshire on Saturday and a 14-11 victory over the University of Connecticut at home on Wednesday. The men’s team saw less success, falling to No. 3 University of North Carolina 18-5 and dropping a close game to the University of Vermont, 13-8.

At 7 a.m. most mornings in the fall, varsity track and field distance runner Jill Corcoran ’15 woke up and went for a run. But instead of taking her through Pine Park or down Rip Road, her daily jaunts brought her past Big Ben and the Tower Bridge.

Will Geoghegan ’14 did not consider running Division I track until his sophomore year of high school, when he quit baseball, his primary sport at the time, to start outdoor track. Last weekend, Geoghegan achieved the runner’s holy grail, running a sub-four-minute mile, suggesting that the switch was worth it.

The volleyball team had a tough weekend of home matches against the University of Pennsylvania and Princeton University. The Quakers (14-9, 8-4 Ivy) and Tigers (9-13, 5-7 Ivy) beat the Big Green (10-14, 3-9 Ivy) in 3-1 matches.

The women’s field hockey team triumphed over Columbia University on Sunday, defeating the Lions (6-9, 2-3 Ivy) 6-2 at home.

The Big Green women were tenacious during the match, firing off 21 shots, with eight on target, to the Wildcats' nine. UNH freshman goalkeeper Mimi Borkan stood tall in net, recording eight saves in 110 minutes of play. Tatiana Saunders '15 held her own for the Big Green, stopping four shots in the game for her fourth shutout of the season and her second in a row. Dartmouth has six shutouts this season.

Despite an 0-2 weekend, the volleyball team had a historic road trip as co-captain Elisa Scudder '14 set the program's blocking record. In the second set of the game against the Bulldogs (9-3, 3-0 Ivy), Scudder's block put her count at 281, the most in the program's history.

The Dartmouth men's golf team traveled to Ithaca, N.Y., to compete at the Cornell Invitational. The team collectively shot a total of 301 points, securing a fourth-place finish. Dartmouth opened shooting 305 and shot 297 in the second round. Their 54-hole total was 903, just one stroke shy of beating third-place winner Cornell.

Princeton has improved drastically over the last few years, holding a record of 36-1 in the Ancient Eight since the 2008 season, momentum they rode to a national title last year. The Tigers' only loss in Ivy play in the last five years was to Dartmouth in 2011.

D'Agostino, the defending national champion in the indoor race, finished first in her heat with a 16:05.21, almost six seconds ahead of the second-place runner. Her time gave her sixth-place overall in the event and advanced her to the NCAA Championship meet in Eugene, Ore., in two weeks.

The Dartmouth crew teams had a busy weekend, traveling to Ithaca and Seattle to compete on the water. Dartmouth's heavyweight crew team rowed in the 27th annual Windermere Cup on Saturday, a prestigious race hosted by the University of Washington on the Montlake Cut in Seattle. Fellow Ivy League competitor Cornell University joined the Big Green at the race.

Eliminated from the Ivy League tournament, Brown and Dartmouth were tied for sixth place in the league and capped an exciting season, though they came out on the wrong side of some close games. A major highlight of the season was against Princeton on April 13, when Dartmouth scored a buzzer-beating goal to claim a 10-9 victory.

Let's start with the basic facts and figures. Construction began in April 2006 and was completed in October 2007. Floren was made possible by donations from Olivia and Douglas C. Floren '63 and boasts 41,300 square feet of space. The structure was designed by Centerbrook Architects and Planners, and cost over $19 million. Floren was built at the same time as Alumni Gym underwent renovations.

The Big Green played an intense game against Brown (7-2, 1-2 Ivy), with Sarah Byrne '15 scoring the final goal with only 13 seconds remaining, giving the team their fifth one-goal victory of the season. The game was a remarkable comeback, as the Big Green trailed Brown 4-2 at the half. Players have observed the Big Green's tendency to come alive during the second half of a game, and are hoping to translate the momentum to the first half.
