Breaking the single-day box office record held by “The Dark Knight” (2008), “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” brought in $72.7 million in its opening day on Friday and $140.7 million in its first three days, good for third-highest all-time on the domestic charts. “New Moon” is the second in a series of four films based on the bestselling novels by Stephanie Meyer. “New Moon” has stolen the hearts of tweens and teenagers alike across the country, appealing to a certain female demographic thanks to the striking looks of young lead actors Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. One commenter on The New York Times’ ArtsBeat blog mentioned hearing strong reactions from the “teenie girls” sitting behind him when Lautner’s character took his shirt off.
“New Moon” is currently playing at Entertainment Cinemas in Lebanon, N.H. According to management at the cinema, all opening day shows on Friday were sold out.
