Each fall, Mirror welcomes a group of new writers. Although this year’s writers bring a variety of backgrounds and academic interests, the one thing they all share is a desire to write for The Dartmouth’s one-and-only magazine section. Before their bylines begin popping up throughout this newspaper, though, we’ve asked them a little about themselves and their Dartmouth experience so far.
What are you thinking of studying?
Daria Stoyanova ’30: Applied math or data science.
Harrison McCormick ’30: Engineering sciences.

Steffi Kim ’30: Biology.
Emily Chen ’30: English literature.
Sharon Chang ’30: Biomedical engineering.
Why did you decide to join Mirror?
DS: I wanted to explore a more creative side of journalism!
HM: I wanted an opportunity to meet people in Hanover and the Dartmouth community.
AC: I wanted to learn more about Dartmouth’s culture and write introspectively!
EB: I’ve always loved writing and journalism. I edited the newspaper in high school but I’ve always been curious about magazine production!
SK: I love how thoughtful the writing is!
EC: I’m a compulsive storyteller.
SC: To write and read funny stories!
What’s been your favorite part of Dartmouth so far?
DS: Meeting new people and exploring campus during the fall weather.
HM: FOCO!
AC: First year trips (moderate hiking section A).
EB: The amazing community and incredible opportunities in the outdoors. The fact that I can learn to whitewater kayak on Monday, go on a sunrise hike Tuesday, maintain trails on the Appalachian Trail Wednesday, work at an organic farm Thursday, go to a shooting range Friday, then camp over the weekend all for free is literally insane.
SK: The people here.
EC: I love the intimate, nostalgic, exuberant feel of the community. People here are weird in the best way. There is such a strong performing arts culture — from joining in a spontaneous medley on the grass to the dinner show at Sklodj, where we were welcomed like Belle from “Beauty and the Beast” in the “Be Our Guest” scene.
SC: Seeing pretty nature every day!
The Dartmouth tradition to which you’re most looking forward is…
DS: Snowball fight.
HM: Winter Carnival.
AC: Green Key!
