Jennifer Hunt will be the next dean of the Geisel School of Medicine, according to a campus-wide email sent by College President Sian Leah Beilock and Provost Santiago Schnell on Thursday. Hunt will assume the role on Aug. 1 and will be the first female dean in the school’s history, according to the email from Beilock and Schnell.
Hunt’s “commitment to interdisciplinary research and to mentoring the next generation of medical professionals fully aligns with the school’s emphasis on service to our rural region, excellence in patient care, research-driven innovation and strong partnership with Dartmouth Health,” Beilock and Schnell wrote.
Hunt was selected by a search advisory committee co-chaired by Geisel professors Charles Barlowe and Barbara Jobst, according to Beilock and Schnell. She will replace interim dean Steve Leach, who has served since Aug. 1, 2025.
Hunt currently serves as interim dean of the University of Florida’s College of Medicine. She has published more than 160 peer-reviewed papers, chaired the UF’s pathology, immunology and laboratory medicine department and served as chief of the hospital medical staff at UF Health’s Shands Hospital, according to Beilock and Schnell.
Hunt received an MD and an M.Ed. from the University of Pennsylvania, according to Beilock and Schnell. As an undergraduate, she studied chemistry and French at Bryn Mawr College.
Beilock and Schnell wrote that they were “grateful to the search committee for the seriousness and dedication with which they undertook this process.”
