If you're not familiar with the Dartmouth performing arts scene — particularly campus dance and a cappella groups — they often perform during the term on week nights at Greek houses.
It can be challenging to see every group perform once when you get busy with tests, essays, and extracurricular activities. So, I really appreciated this opportunity to see my peers perform all in one day.
The first performance was by the dance group Street Solstice, the summer rendition of Street Soul. They debuted on the main stage located in front of Phi Delta Alpha.
I'll admit, I missed the first bit of their performance (they started early), but their choreography to “California Girls” by Katy Perry got me hyped for the rest of the day.
On the second stage — located on the street in between Sigma Phi Epsilon and Sigma Nu fraternities — the Dartmouth Sings kicked off the a cappella performances.
About midway through the performance, I noticed that the group’s color scheme matched some nearby flowers, and I had to get them in the foreground. It was so perfect.
Equally as perfect? The incredible performance by Dartmouth’s South Asian inspired dance group Raaz (dubbed Raazberry for the summer).
I was obsessed with their music design. They had such a seamless mashup of the most awesome songs.
They were followed by the incredibly talented Summerphonix, the summer subgroup of the Dodecaphonics.
I enjoyed their arrangement of “Disturbia” by Rihanna (pictured above). They really got into it with the choreography and the audience was bumping along.
Jumping back to the main stage, Fission (the summer version of Fussion) put on a “Mamma Mia!” themed performance.
I might be biased because blue is my favorite color, but I thought their outfits were so fun. I haven't watched the “Mamma Mia!” pair all the way through, but I guess I better get on it before the third one comes out.
You know what I have seen, though? A Casual Thursday performance, and they absolutely rocked it. They had everyone laughing. What a great day for improve, truly.
All in all, it was a sweet show. Speaking of sweet, I also saw this fantastic dance group put on a the most terrific “Love Island”-inspired performance.
You know, I haven't seen a single episode of the show. However, Splenda (the summer group of Sugarplum) might have just made me a fan.
Every choreographed step in this show was phenomenal.
A fitting performance to be followed by the a cappella group Step Bros (summer version of the Brovertones).
The Step Bros always bring a vintage vibe with their timeless song selections, and the crowd loved it. Can you tell how much fun everyone was having?
I was really thankful that it wasn't too hot out, because these performances spanned hours. It would have been such a shame to melt.
But I almost did anyway after Ujimelt brought the heat with their “Camp Rock” inspired performance.
Ujimelt is the summer squad for the dance group Ujima. I loved the way that their orange tie-dye photographed against the green.
It was giving summer in all the best ways. They were followed by the lovely improv group, Dog Day.
Dog Day’s performance was so good even the insects wanted to attend.
A little bee was flying around trying to get in on the action. Take a look at the photo above and decide how successful he was.
Shebalite (summer version of the dance group Sheba) rounded out the dance performances on the main stage.
I could tell you how fun and awesome it is, but you really just had to be there to get all the vibes. I think they had my favorite music mashup of the day.
The Doms (summer group for the Subtleties) concluded the performances for the day on the second stage.
They were the perfect wrap up to the day with their soft and sweet performance of “Love Club” by Lorde and “Super Trooper” by ABBA.
