To the Editor-in-Chief, Charlotte Hampton,
The nation is in the worst position I have ever witnessed. The parallels to the rise of fascism in Portugal beginning in 1915, Spain during its Civil War and Germany during the Weimar Republic, are palpable. The ‘playbook’ – followed by the Federalist Society and Leonard Leo, the Heritage Foundation and its Project 2025, as well as the Republican Party — is clear for all to witness.
Dithering, dissembling, or trying to tread water by oneself, in the hope the crisis will pass, will not suffice as ‘leadership’ for Dartmouth. ‘We must all hang together, or we shall surely all hang separately.’
I encourage The Dartmouth to follow the facts and evidence, and apply the rules of logic and reason, in the context of the law ... and report, report, report. The demise of the Fairness Doctrine during the Reagan Administration led to reductions in truthfulness in the media and increases in bias. Be advocates for the truth.
Sincerely,
Al Henning ’77
