Hot Take: Women’s track and field finish high in Ivy League Outdoor Track Championship

Madison Savoy | Team: Women’s Track and Field | Event: Ivy League Outdoor Track Championship

This past weekend, the Jay Carisella Coaches Invitational hosted by Northeastern University in Dedham, MA was fruitful for Dartmouth track and field. On Saturday, the women’s track and field team added three names to the all-time program top ten finishers list, marking a very successful end to regular season competition.

In the 100m hurdles, Mariella Schweitzer ’26 took first place, with a finish of 13.75 seconds — putting her in second place in program history. She also went on to win the long jump, posting a 5.92 meter mark.

Daniela Ruelas Lomeli ’26 trailed just behind Schweitzer, placing second in the 100m hurdles and seventh place in program history finishes, with a time of 14.50 seconds. Distance runner Emma Kerimo ’25 grabbed the win with a 17:45:38 finish in the 5000m.

Running was not the only point of success for the women’s team last weekend. First year Žaneta Pivcová ’28 now sits tenth on the top ten list, after an outstanding 14.34 meter shot-put performance. The all-time record is 15.50 meters set in 1996.

Next weekend, the team is heading to New Haven, Conn., to compete at the Ivy League Outdoor Track and Field Championship. After last weekend, expect the women’s team to continue their historic success by climbing the ranks among our fellow Ivies.

Hot Take: Men’s track and field will win 800m and men’s shot

Ava Politis | Team: Men’s Track and Field | Event: Ivy League Outdoor Track Championship

Along with the women’s team, Dartmouth men’s track and field traveled down to Northeastern University for the Jay Carisella Coaches Invitational. With the Ivy League Outdoor Track Championship around the corner, the Big Green have put themselves in a good spot for the upcoming weekend.

Max Klein ’26 put up an impressive performance, as a 17.57m throw in the men’s shot pushed him to win the event. Klein was not the only star of the weekend; J’Voughnn Blake ’26 was the runner-up in the 800m. With a finish of 1:47.72, Blake has the second-fastest time in Big Green history behind Dennis Webster ’92 with a finish of 1:47.67.

This weekend, Klein should have no problem taking home the first place medal in the men’s shot. With Klein winning the men’s shot at Northeastern and the University of Massachusetts Commonwealth Invitational, he approaches the weekend with momentum.

Expect Blake to have an exceptional weekend as well; with a runner-up finish last weekend, Blake has what it takes to secure a top-three finish, if not win the 800m. Beating Webster’s record may be hard, but it is not impossible.

Hot Take: Baseball get back on track against Stonehill College

Sid Singh | Team: Baseball | Event: Game against Stonehill College

After four consecutive wins in the previous week, Dartmouth baseball fell just short to Merrimack College last Wednesday in a 6-5 loss. They get a chance to bounce back this Wednesday against Stonehill — the first ever encounter between the two teams. The Skyhawks — who are 17-25 on the season and 0-3 against Ivy League opponents — are a formidable opponent who have won seven of their last 10 games. However, the Big Green will enjoy home field advantage at Red Rolfe Field on Wednesday, where they have an 8-2 record.

The Big Green has been spearheaded by impressive performances by their batters, including Ethan Brown ’27 who had two RBIs against Merrimack, and Elliot Krewson ’25 who had two RBIs in the last game against Cornell. Expect Brown, Krewson and the rest of the batting pavilion to dominate the Skyhawks pitchers this Wednesday.
