Moran retires from Hanover force

Hanover Police detective captain Frank Moran, who recently stepped down as acting police chief, retired from the police department Tuesday.

Moran took the position of acting police chief after former police chief Nicholas Giaccone suffered a stroke on Feb. 22, 2013. After joining the force in 1988, Moran has served exclusively in the Hanover for the past 26 years, according to a Tuesday press release.

Charlie Dennis, who has had 28 years of law enforcement experience, took over the department in June following a search involving more than 60 candidates.

As acting police chief, Moran opened an investigation into the January Bored at Baker post targeting a member of the Class of 2017 and testified in the trial of Parker Gilbert ’16, a Dartmouth student found not guilty of rape after a nearly two-week trial in March.
