Weekend assault latest in Upper Valley crime

A woman was attacked by an unknown male at around 11:15 p.m. Sunday night while walking along Route 10, according to a campus-wide Safety and Security alert. The woman was a Dartmouth graduate in her early 20s, Safety and Security associate director Keiselim Montas said.

The woman reported being knocked to the ground by a man while walking near Wyeth Farm Circle, a mile south of campus.

The woman fought the assailant, whom she described as an approximately 40-year-old, 5-foot-9-inch white male, before he drove away in a dark sedan. She sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where she was treated and released. She said her attacker used a stun gun device and presented markings consistent with the claim, interim Lebanon police chief Gary Smith said.

The woman described the suspect as a heavy-set male wearing thin-rimmed glasses with a small nose and short balding dark hair.

Lebanon Police and Safety and Security are investigating the case.

The attack comes following a string of unconnected Upper Valley crimes.

Hanover police recently investigated six burglaries that occurred in the early morning of July 30. Four family-owned vehicles and two homes were targeted in the same downtown residential neighborhood, located off Lebanon Street, Hanover police detective Eric Bates said. The burglars appear to have targeted electronics and cash.

The residents were asleep in their homes when the robberies occurred, and both the vehicles and residences had been left unlocked, Bates said.

On Aug. 6, Lebanon police arrested three alleged drug dealers, according to a press release. One of the men, Jason Brooks, 32, of Walpole, N.H., was found possessing 330 bags of heroin. The police investigation also uncovered a small amount of marijuana and Suboxone, a controlled drug.

Seven bags of heroin and over $6,000 in cash were found in the possession of Travis Frenette, 27, of Winooski, Vt., and two bags were associated with the youngest of the men, Kyle Tetreault, 23, of Vergennes, Vt.

Brooks and Frenette, who face felony charges, were transported to the Grafton County House of Corrections following their arrest. Tetreault was released on $10,000 bail, with a court date set for early September.

The arrests came as the result of a Lebanon police department investigation into the sale of heroin.
