Graduate programs at Tuck School of Business, Thayer School of Engineering, Geisel School of Medicine and The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice will host individual graduation activities this weekend, including Investiture ceremonies and class days. Graduates will also receive diplomas with the undergraduate Class of 2012 at the Commencement ceremony on Sunday.
Tuck will hold its Investiture on Saturday afternoon, during which 280 students will receive MBA degrees, according to Tuck Assistant Director Lauren Miller. College trustee Steven Roth '62 Tu '63, who will receive an honorary degree from the College on Sunday, will deliver the keynote address.
"Mr. Roth is very active in the Tuck community," Miller said. "It's an honor to have him here."
Graduates will be given master's hoods during the ceremony to complete the regalia they will wear to Commencement on Sunday. Student awards are also presented at the event, according to Tuck's website.
On Friday, Tuck held its annual Friends and Family Day, which included tours of the College and Tuck, a catered lunch and mock classes taught by Tuck professors, according to the Tuck graduation website.
The Geisel School of Medicine will hold its Class Day on June 9 in front of the Class of 1978 Life Sciences building, where 68 medical school students and 27 graduate students in the life sciences will receive their graduate hoods, according to Connie Prior, Geisel executive assistant to the vice president and dean.
Partners in Health co-founder Paul Farmer will deliver the keynote address, and the event will also feature student speakers from each class.
Dual-degree student Tom Finn Tu'12 Med'12 said his education at Dartmouth has prepared him for his job as a internal medicine resident at Brigham and Women's Hospital at Harvard Medical School next year.
"I loved my time at Dartmouth, both at the Geisel School and at Tuck," Finn said. "I'm also very excited about moving on to a career."
Finn added that he is excited to hear Farmer, who is an alumnus of the Brigham program, speak at the event.
TDI will hold its Class Day ceremony on Friday at the Quechee Inn at Marshland Farms, according to Karen Tombs, TDI associate director of education. The ceremony will honor 39 master's of public health program graduates, 13 master's program graduates, and six Ph.D graduates. Individual student awards are presented at the event, and each student will receive farewell gifts, Tombs said.
Julie Bynum, professor of medicine and associate director of the Center for Health Policy Research, will give the keynote speech at the event, according to Tombs. Randall Lea Med'12, a master's of public health candidate, will serve as the student speaker.
Lea spent the past year at Dartmouth pursuing his master's of public health degree after working as an orthopedic doctor for 25 years, he said.
"I cannot say enough good about the faculty or quality of students in my class, and I'm so thankful I came here," he said. "My time at TDI has changed how I plan to spend the remainder of my career."
Thayer's Investiture ceremony will take place on Saturday in Spalding Auditorium, according to Larissa Pyer, administrative assistant in the Office of Academic and Student Affairs.
The ceremony will honor 76 bachelor's degree graduates, 46 master's of engineering management graduates, and seven master's degree graduates and 13 PhD graduates.
Bob Metcalfe, professor of innovation and the Murchison Fellow of Free Enterprise at the University of Texas at Austin's Cockrell School of Engineering, will deliver the keynote address.
