Every Tuesday, the band Timeflies releases a fun music video featuring either a short preview of a song they are working on or a catchy freestyle rap melody. What started out as a way to keep their fans updated on their progress and life has quickly turned into a viral YouTube sensation. Timeflies, originally formed in 2010, consists of vocalist Cal Shapiro and producer Rob Resnick. The duo first met at Tufts University, and despite their production of a top-10 iTunes album, they are still best-known for their YouTube channel and Tuesday uploads. The videos currently have over nine million views combined. Their most viewed video is a freestyle by Shapiro over Disney's "Under The Sea" with a beat inspired by producer "Rez." The comments on the video embody the enthusiasm from fans about their music, and aside from the thousands of posts by Cal-obsessed teens, they are all extremely positive. Another great video features a fast-paced freestyle over a "Carry On My Wayward Son" beat in which Shapiro pulls words out of a hat and comes up with original lyrics about them. He truly is a talented rapper but also a gifted singer whose vocal interludes throughout his freestyles add an enormous amount to each song. Although Timeflies is heading toward big things in the music industry, their weekly video uploads still remain a fun and popular escape from their lives in the recording studio.
