Dartmouth raced at the Women's Regis Bowl at Boston University, the Hood Trophy at Tufts University, the Salt Pond Invitational in Rhode Island, the St. Mary's Fall at St. Mary's College and the Northern Series Two, a home regatta at Mascoma Lake in Lebanon, N.H. It won the Women's Regis Bowl and the Salt Pond Invitational and placed second at the Northern Series.
The highlight of the weekend came on the Charles River at the Regis Bowl, where Dartmouth placed first out of 16 teams. Kelsey Wheeler '14 and Molly Wilson '13 won the A Division, while Carissa Crawford '14 and Deirdre Lambert '15 took first place in the B Division.
"I couldn't be more excited about our results this weekend." Wheeler said. "This regatta revealed the strides Molly and I have made working together throughout preseason and helped identify skills we can continue to work on as we move forward in our season."
Despite light winds that disrupted racing on Saturday, the women's team led after the first day and carried its advantage into Sunday.
"The wind was never very strong but the race committee made the most of it and was able to complete seven races for each division," Crawford said, referring to the less-than-ideal sailing conditions on Saturday.
Sunday saw almost no wind, but a light breeze arrived approximately 20 minutes before the regatta was to be called, allowing the competition to continue. After five races, Dartmouth managed to solidify its victory.
"The regatta was a great opportunity to take some risks in hopes of improving," Crawford said. "Though the result was awesome, it's even better that there was a lot of improvement since it is still early in the season and there are plenty more regattas to come."
Wilson said the conditions at the regatta created signficant challenges.
"We had consistent results even though the wind was pretty light at times, and the Charles River has a reputation for being tricky," she said.
The Big Green also finished in first place overall at the Salt Pond Invitational, despite placing second in both the A and B Divisions. The regatta, which hosted seven other teams, was called at noon on Sunday due to a lack of wind.
Dartmouth finished in ninth overall out of 18 teams at the St. Mary's Invitational. Matt Habig '13 and Sam Williams '12 placed sixth in the A Division, while Matt Wefer '14 and Charlotte Snow '15 placed 11th in the B Division.
The regatta pitted the Big Green against a number of competitive teams, including one from the United Kingdom.
The team also placed ninth at the Hood Trophy, holding its own against a 21-team field. It finished 15th in the A Division and tied for fourth in the B Division.
Dartmouth also hosted the Northern Series Two, a regatta on Mascoma Lake. The Big Green finished in second out of nine teams overall, placing second behind the University of Vermont in both the A and B Divisions.
Dartmouth was scheduled to compete in the Chris Loder Trophy at the University of New Hampshire, but the regatta was canceled due to insufficient wind.
The Big Green competes next weekend in three regattas held throughout New England.
