Internet Meme of the Week: White Whine

Making fun of annoying, wealthy people has recently become a popular trend on the internet. With the boom of social media over the past few years, people seem to have become a lot more open perhaps excessively so - about their day-to-day activities in hopes that others actually care. Take, for example, "White Whine," a new blog by humorist Streeter Seidell that mocks the insensitive, hilarious and often absurd social media antics of the privileged.

On his blog, Seidell compiles Facebook posts, tweets, YouTube videos and other online findings that ridicule unaware snobs, such as one woman who wonders via a Facebook status, "damnit Japan, why'd you have to get hit by that freakin' tsunami, you're making it unnecessarily hard to get a good deal on a 2011 Accord!!!!" Another Facebook user, identified as "C," expresses his lack of excitement over his recent iPod purchase because he "can't stand Apple products." Seidell's blog reminds us all that our issues (#whitegirlproblems?) maybe aren't quite as significant as we would like to think a valuable lesson for many of us at Dartmouth.
