Capping an impressive season in which it lost only one Ivy League game, the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team emerged victorious with a share of the League title by defeating Harvard University on Friday evening, 14-7. More than 1,000 fans attended the home win, which marked the Big Green's 11th League championship and the team's first since 2005.
Dartmouth (10-3, 6-1 Ivy) will share the regular season title with the University of Pennsylvania, which will host the League tournament next weekend by virtue of its 10-9 win over the Big Green on April 16.
Dartmouth stymied Harvard's usually-strong offense, never allowing the Crimson (9-5, 5-2 Ivy) significant momentum despite its 30 shots. Rookie goalie Kristen Giovanniello '14 had 13 saves.
Co-captain Greta Meyer '11 led the Big Green's scoring attack, tallying four goals. Courtney Bennett '13 and co-captain Kat Collins '11 added three goals each.
The result marked the 100th League win for head coach Amy Patton, who has led Dartmouth to nine League championships.
The Big Green will now advance to play Harvard again in the League tournament. The two teams will face each other on Friday afternoon in Philadelphia, with Dartmouth playing as the second seed and the Crimson as the third seed. Penn (11-4, 6-1 Ivy) will be the number one seed in the tournament.
