Paul Jarvis '12 was elected captain, while Bill Lehmann '12, Nate Brakeley '12 and Derek Fish '12 were named co-captains. Clark Judge '12 was also elected president of the Big Green, which finished its spring season with a 3-4 record in the Premier Division and ranked 16th in the nation.

"Every member of the team gets a vote during elections, so it's truly an honor to be chosen as a representative for an organization with more than 60 years of tradition," Jarvis said.

The women's team recently changed the composition of its leadership structure, forming a tiered board headed by six "team executives," women's team president Melanie Pastuck '11 said in an email to The Dartmouth.

The women's team which follows a similar voting system to the men's team and grants each player an equal vote elected Ginna Roach '12 as president and Theresa Cassano '12 and Molly Manning '12 as captains. Vanessa Mercado '12, Maddy Sturm '13 and Alexandra Murray '14 were elected as match secretary, secretary and treasurer, respectively.

"In addition to being an exceptional athlete, Roach is a truly hard working, dedicated and organized player," Pastuck said in the email.

Lehmann said the rugby team develops leaders during the course of the season and throughout the years that many players dedicate to the team.

"The team mantra is that you aim to leave the club a better place than where you find it, which I believe the 2012 leadership very much takes to heart," Lehmann said in an email to The Dartmouth. "It is an honor and a privilege to follow the '11s, who all did a fantastic job with their responsibilities and provided great role models for the team."

Jarvis emphasized that unlike varsity sports that operate under the athletic department, the rugby team is entirely student-run. The organization takes pride in electing players who can do things like manage a budget and ensure that the club is operating smoothly, he said.

The team's captain is the primary leader on the field, while the president delegates responsibilities and handles the club's inner-workings, according to team member Christopher MacNaughton '13. MacNaughton said the new captains and president will provide stable support for the team in the upcoming season.

Christian Fisch '13, the men's team's new recruitment chair, said in an email to The Dartmouth that the team will continue to make progress in its player development efforts.

"The recruitment chair position is important because when recruits come to visit Dartmouth, I am responsible for showing them what the [rugby team] is and how its players conduct themselves on and off the field," Fisch said.

Although it has finished its regular season, the men's team is currently training for the Collegiate Rugby Championship Sevens tournament, which will place on June 4 and 5 in Philadelphia. The women's team competed in the Division I National Tournament last weekend and is now focusing on training and scrimmages.
