The Dartmouth

What's up with '15s?

Spring term at Dartmouth doesn't just mean melting snow and facetime on the Green it means prospies. Lots of them. Think hoards of high schoolers (the prob is the new schmob) roaming campus in search of future profile pics with Keggy and their first games of pong.

What makes the '15s so special? According to The Dartmouth, '15s are pretty elite. They boast the highest median SAT scores and the lowest admission rate ever (an expected 9.5 percent). They've even got an Olympic gold medalist. They were selected from over 21,700 applicants to join us, so they can't be that bad right?

Wrong. They're '15s. They haven't even gotten on campus yet and they are already the worst class ever. I knew there had to be more to them than the statistics, so since my brother is a '15, I hijacked his Facebook account and did a little investigative journalism. Meet the treasure trove that is the Dartmouth Class of 2015 Facebook group. The group is private so think of this article as Overheards for '15s.

The '15s use the group's wall as an Internet sounding board on which they reveal their deepest emotions and questions. Case in point: "I just skied for like the first time in five years and it was awesome. Don't we like, have a mountain?"

The more brazen '15s use the group to make insightful suggestions such as, "I'm hoping we are the class that is going to give Dartmouth an official mascot angora rabbits, anyone?"

Others post class-wide self-calls: "A bunch of my friends got accepted to other schools and all of the wall posts on the group are just things like engineering from Long Island' and arts and sciences from PA!' We are so much more cool and friendly it's insane :)." <3?

By far the best posts are those in which the '15s predict what life in Hanover will be like. They're prepared for DOC Trips, Orientation and apparently Diversions. "So a lady from the College came to my house to talk about a drinking problem, I live in Florida lol is it that serious?" asked one student.

This kid is ready.

As nave as the '15s are now, we've all been there. No matter when you decided to attend Dartmouth, there was a lot of time between submitting your intention to enroll on BannerStudent and doing the Salty Dog Rag outside Robo during Trips. Those months were filled with ridiculous optimism about our school before we even became students here. We can laugh, but we can't really begin to dislike the '15s yet because they remind us of our younger, wide-eyed selves and our premature love of Dartmouth.

Until we remember that by September they'll officially be the worst class ever.
