Captain Audrey Kolodziej '11 said the team didn't start the game with the intention of breaking records, and players weren't aware that they were approaching the mark during the contest.
"It was a nice surprise at the end of the game," she said.
In the first game, Meghan Everett '12 led the charge with a single to the left side to score the first run in the bottom of the third inning. Hillary Hubert '13 followed with a two-out single and was replaced by pinch-runner Bianca Smith '12. After Noelle Ramirez '13 walked, Smith to moved to second, putting two runners on the bases for cleanup batter Molly Khalil '12. Khalil didn't disappoint, smashing her sixth home run of the season to clear the bases for three more runs.
Khalil didn't just hit well, but also called a great game as catcher. She "outsmarted Brown's lineup" with her teamwork with pitcher Evan Gray '13, Ramirez said.
Gray finished with two strikeouts and notched her third shutout of the year.
With Kat Adams '13 and Everett both on base in the sixth inning, Kolodziej blasted a homerun to put up three more runs for the Big Green. Kat Hicks '12 finished the scoring with an RBI single to right field.
In the high-skilled second game, the Big Green only hit singles. Despite the slower pace, Dartmouth continued to score run after run.
"A lot of times when you beat a team in the first game, it's easy to let up in the second game," Kolodziej said. "But we didn't do that."
Ramirez started the scoring with a hit to the left side, allowing Kolodziej to score and Hubert to advance. Ramirez then came home on a single by Khalil. After a hit by Hicks and a walk from Adams, Khalil scored on a hit from Hillary Barker '12, which she shot out past third base. Khalil beat the throw home and Hicks followed right behind, scoring when the Brown catcher fumbled the ball.
The Big Green took advantage of Brown's errors later in the inning when it scored two more for a total of eight runs in the first frame.
Ramirez, who went 3-4 on the day, said the team "was pretty consistent throughout the game" and "didn't give up anything."
In the bottom of the fourth, Ramirez knocked a single to right field and then went to second after Khalil's hit to the same spot. Adams became the third baserunner after she was awarded first base when the umpire called catcher's interference. Dartmouth turned its baserunners into runs when Jonele Conceicao '14 drew a walk and Morgan Wharton '13 knocked a single to left, marking her first career hit.
Ramirez said the team refrained from using any involved strategies or trickery.
"We just hit," she said. "We weren't taking extra bases or doing anything special."
Barker pitched for the Big Green in the second game and finished with three strikeouts and three earned runs. She also led the team with four RBIs.
The second game's excellence was a result of "complete team effort," Barker said.
"When you score that many runs on the day, everyone plays well," she said.
Although the Big Green travels to Boston College on Wednesday for a doubleheader, Dartmouth is already focusing on its upcoming matchup against Harvard University on Saturday. The team's main goal is to "give Harvard a run for their money," Kolodziej said.
In order for Dartmouth to win the division and have a chance at the Ivy League Championship, it will have to beat the Crimson (28-14, 12-2 Ivy) in all four games. Harvard currently leads both the North and South divisions of the League.
"We're excited about it because anything can happen, but we'll have to put in the work this week to beat the best team in the league," Ramirez said.
Kolodziej said she plans to have fun playing the Crimson.
"As we saw today, we play our best when we have fun," she said.
