The result marked Dartmouth's first Ivy League loss of the season.

Dartmouth started the game strongly and, following a long offensive possession, scored the matchup's first goal. Dysenchuk scored off an assist from Kip Dooley '12 just over 3.5 minutes into the game.

Cornell followed with two goals in the opening quarter, however, beginning an unanswered seven-goal run that continued into the second quarter.

Dysenchuk broke Cornell's scoring streak with 9:36 left in the half, when he struck unassisted for his second goal of the game. But Cornell answered and scored four more times, rounding out the half with 11 goals. Dysenchuk tallied his final point of the game just before the whistle, making the halftime score 11-3.

Captain Rhett Miller '11 said that despite the team's overall struggles against Cornell, Dartmouth managed to perform well in some areas.

"After Cornell's run in the second quarter, we weren't able to get it done on offense or defense," he said. "Our middies dodged well and we were able to get the ball out of our defense and into the offensive zone."

The Big Red did not let up and netted three goals in only a minute midway through the third quarter, before Dartmouth responded with a three-goal streak before the quarter ended.

Miller began the Big Green sequence with a goal off a pass from Dooley, and scored unassisted two minutes later. Jack Steele '11 finished the quarter with a goal in the last minute.

Cornell came out firing in the final period, scoring two early goals. Ben Rossman '12 shot past Cornell freshman goalie Andrew West halfway through the final quarter, however, and Dooley scored later in the frame while Dartmouth was in a man-up situation.

Dooley has earned at least one point in all eight Big Green games this season.

"Cornell played well offensively and took advantage of their opportunities," Miller said. "We were able to break their defense but didn't shoot as well as we wanted."

Head coach Andrew Towers said the team played similarly to how it practiced all week.

"Physically, we played hard just like we practiced," he said. "[Cornell] is a program that plays with a lot of passion. Our goal was to meet and exceed their level of intensity. Our lack of depth in this high-pace game made that difficult."

Despite allowing a combined 19 goals, Dartmouth goalies Fergus Campbell '12 and Ryan Alexander '13 also stopped a total of 15 shots. The Big Green got off 36 shots, while the Big Red struck 46 times.

"[Cornell] shot really well and their goalie made some great saves in the second quarter," Towers said. "[Junior] Rob Pannell is a dynamic player and had a great game for them."

Cornell dominated the game's possession, picking up 41 groundballs and controlling 15 faceoffs. Dartmouth secured 26 groundball.

"We lost the groundball battle between the lines today," Towers said.

Dartmouth capitalized on one of three man-up opportunities following Cornell penalties, while the Big Red scored on one of its five man-up chances.

The Big Green will continue its League schedule when it visits Yale University on Saturday.

"It should be a heated game," Miller said. "We are looking forward to beating Yale and being 2-1 in the League. In practice we will work on our defense and make sure our offense is ready to go. Hopefully we will get some guys back from injury this week."

Coach Towers said he is looking forward to the rest of the season and believes the team can compete for the League title and potentially earn an at-large bid for the NCAA tournament.

"The [League] is the strongest league in Division 1 this year," he said. "We will be in a good position especially if we beat Yale next weekend."

He added that it is important for the Big Green to move on from the loss.

"We will practice everyday this week," Towers said. "Even though the score was nothing to be proud of, it was just a loss."

Dartmouth plays Yale (5-2, 1-2 Ivy) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in New Haven, Conn.
