Coming into "Cedar Rapids," I expected to see a quirky comedy with a raunchy edge and that's exactly what I got. Although not as primitively bromance-y as "The Hangover," "Cedar Rapids" will guarantee a respectable round of laughs tied together at the end with a sweet sense of hopefulness.

"Cedar Rapids" sets itself apart from similar raunchy comedies with characters that are believable and familiar. Helms glows with affable ignorance while Reilly garners sympathy and laughs as his opposite, hiding disappointment with his life underneath a daring, loudmouthed exterior. You won't want to miss the on-screen drunken interaction in a pool between these two it's pure gold.

Arteta's newest comedy is a fanfare of feel-good antics with an all-star cast. Snappy dialogue refreshes what could have been a trite underdog story, and Reilly's performance as a prankster during his midlife crisis gives the film its heart. Audience members will appreciate Heche in an unconventional role as the mischievous but ultimately melancholy temptress Joan. Rena Sapon-White
