"Sanctum" is the first movie I've ever wanted to walk out on. Hampered by trite dialogue and unlikeable characters, the stilted film leaves the audience feeling distinctly underwhelmed within its first 20 minutes. Aside from its dramatic shortcomings, "Sanctum" is the latest release to join the league of movies unnecessarily shown in 3-D. However, if you can stomach these undesirable elements and stick it out until the end of the movie, you will find that the film's storyline is quite thrilling and emotionally compelling. Stunning visual technology rendered the natural beauty displayed in "Sanctum" with exquisite detail, but also served a less welcome purpose, causing the film to succumb to amateurish pop-out 3-D effects. Combined with a violent plot, these graphic visual effects made for a startling moviegoing experience, leaving the more sensitive audience members hiding with their eyes closed, waiting for the more violent scenes to end.
