The Big Green came off a strong weekend the week before, finishing fourth and 13th at the Hurst Bowl and Yale Women's Invitational, respectively.
The Big Green was well represented in both divisions at Brown University's Sherman Hoyte Trophy Regatta. Sam Williams '12 and Matt Habig '13 finished fifth in the A-division, while Ed Jude Glackin '11 and Carissa Crawford '14 finished 16th in the B-division.
"We were happy with the results," Habig said of his race. "The racing conditions were okay the first day was like 12 knots, reasonably windy, and the second day there was no wind and we had to sit around until 3 p.m. and didn't really get to sail at all."
At the Boston College Invitational, Chris Price '14 and Rachel Moncton '12 raced in the A-division, finishing fourth. Taylor McDonald '12 and Sabrina Amaro '13 came in fourth as well in the B-division.
The Oberg Regatta saw an especially strong performance from the Big Green, according to racer Bernie Roesler '12. Roesler and Michelle Hernandez '12 finished second in the B-Division, while Matt Wefer '14 and Ali Hiller '11 finished third in the A-division of the Oberg Regatta.
"We were pretty content with the results," Roesler said. "We're looking forward to keeping our momentum going forward into the end of the fall season," he said.
The women's team competed at Connecticut College's Stu Nelson Intersectional this past weekend, with Chandler Salisbury '13 and Madilyn Gamble '13 finishing 14th in the A-division. Kelsey Wheeler '14 and Margaret Wilson '13 raced in the B-division, finishing second.
Two weekends ago, Dartmouth also hosted its only home invitational regatta of the Fall term, the Mrs. Hurst Bowl. The Big Green finished fourth overall at home.
Williams said that despite challenging conditions, it was nice to race at home.
"The physical style of racing brought on by the very windy conditions presented a challenge in itself," he said.
Williams, Roesler and Habig finished second in the A-division. Glackin, John Renehan '13 and Wefer finished seventh in the B-division.
Last weekend, the women's team also sailed at Yale University's Women's Invitational. Salisbury '13 finished 14th in the A-division, while Wheeler '14 sailed to an eleventh place finish in the B-Division.
This upcoming weekend, the Big Green will be compete in the Schell Trophy regatta at Coast Guard, in two different boats flying juniors and 420s.
The Schell is a very important race for the team this season because it directly precedes the Atlantic Coast Championships, according to Habig. The Atlantic Coast Championships are the equivalent to the National Championships in the spring season, he said.
"The Hoyte this past weekend was really a big practice for the race this weekend," Habig said. "It's one of the main qualifiers that we have to place high in to qualify for the Atlantic Coast Championships, the most important race of the fall." The women's team will compete at the Victorian Coffee Urn this weekend at Connecticut College.
The team is optimistic, but determined going into the end of the fall season, according to Williams.
"We're definitely trying to stay very focused as we go into these next few weeks to keep going forward towards the end of the fall," he said.
