Faculty salaries at U.S. colleges and universities increased by only 1.2 percent over the previous academic year, the smallest change in 50 years, according to an annual salary survey released Monday by the American Association of University Professors. One-third of institutions reported decreases in average salary, with private and church-related schools seeing more cuts than public schools, according to the survey. Among doctoral universities, professors made on average $125,300, associate professors $83,511, assistant professors $71,485 and lecturers $54,583, according to the survey. On average, men made more than women, The New York Times reported. In comparison to the small increase in salaries, U.S. inflation rose 2.7 percent from December 2008 to December 2009, as measured by the Consumer Price Index.

Blackboard announced the release of a new version of its learning management system on Monday, Inside Higher Ed reported. The revised system, Release 9.1, allows users to incorporate content from commonly used web sites including YouTube and Flickr into discussion board posts and online assessments, according to Inside Higher Ed. The new system also allows for integration with Blackboard Mobile Learn, which notifies students of course announcements through their mobile devices, Campus Technology reported. Release 9.1 was designed to be accessible to clients who use the learning management system WebCT, which Blackboard purchased in 2005, according to Inside Higher Ed.
