Steve Donahue, who served as the head coach of the Cornell men's basketball team for the past 10 years, recently accepted the head coaching position at Boston College, IvyLeagueSports.com reported on Wednesday. Donahue, who took over a Big Red squad that recorded only two winning seasons in the 12 years before his tenure, led the Cornell basketball program to three consecutive Ivy League championships and appearances in the NCAA tournament culminating in his team's trip to the Sweet Sixteen after beating Temple University and Wisconsin University in this year's big dance. Ranking third on the Big Red's all-time win list, Donahue has a 146-138 career record and topped the list of Cornell coaches with 78 Ivy victories.
The Ivy League released the 2010 Academic All-Ivy list last Wednesday. The list consists of 80 winter athletes 10 from each school. According to IvyLeagueSports.com, the student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and be a starter or key reserve on an officially recognized varsity team in order to qualify. Each college nominates five men and five women for the honor. Dartmouth's 10 representatives are Michael Ahern '12 (swimming and diving), Scott Fleming '11 (ice hockey), Luke Lee '12 (squash), Ted Lesher '10 (track and field), Robby Pride '10 (basketball), Hannah Conant '11 (squash), Sarah Parsons '10 (ice hockey), Ida Sargent '11 (Nordic skiing), Maddie Steiner '11 (swimming and diving) and Betsy Williams '10 (basketball). This is the second time Parsons and Conant have been named to the Academic All-Ivy team.
Usain Bolt, a three-time Olympic gold medalist for Jamaica, will compete at the 4x100 relay event at the 2010 Penn Relays, according to IvyLeagueSports.com. The race is part of the USA vs. The World event, which will be held on April 24 at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field. Bolt, who currently holds the world record in the 100 and 200 meters, returns to the Penn Relays after competing there for four years as a teenager. As the largest track and field event in the world besides the Olympics and World Championships, the Penn Relays draws an average of over 104,000 spectators each year. The USA vs. The World event marks the beginning of the USA Track and Field's 2010 Outdoor Visa Championship Series.
