The men won the team title for the third year in a row. The women finished in second as they did last year behind a strong Northeastern University team.

Muhammed Abdul-Shakoor '10 led the Big Green men with a victory in the 60-meter dash, conquering a field of 79 competitors with his time of 6.9 seconds to tie the Dartmouth record.

"Yesterday's race will be one of the most memorable races of my Dartmouth running career," Abdul-Shakoor said. "The Dartmouth Relays was a great show of the hard work and attention to technical details that each individual went through in the offseason and the successes that they will build upon moving forward."

In his first collegiate track meet, Anthony Romaniw '13 won the 800 meters in a time of 1:54.85, beating a very competitive field that included Tim Kaijala, a 2008 graduate from the University of Pennsylvania and a former Outdoor Heps champion in the 800 meters.

Co-captain Ted Lesher '10 finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.46. He also earned third in the long jump, posting 6.86 meters.

Trailing Lesher in the long jump, co-captain Mike Poppler '10 took fourth place after jumping 6.70 meters. Other top finishers at the meet were David Irving '11 who finished fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 17.75 meters and Phil Royer '13 who finished third in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:30.57.

Men's head coach Barry Harwick said he was pleased with his team's performance.

"I was very proud of how hard our team worked at the meet," he said. "Putting on a huge three-day event like this would be impossible without the help of all 100 members of the squad and they really came through for us."

The women's team had a few top finishes as well as personal bests. One highlight of the squad's performance was the high-jump event in which the Big Green had two of the top three finishes.

Sarah Klassen'10 took first in the high jump with a height of 1.63 meters and was followed closely by Jessica Robson '11 in third, who reached 1.58 meters.

Monica Hernandez '10 finished in the top spot in the 3000 meters in 10:12, while rookie Kate Sullivan '13 took third place, running an indoor personal best of 10:22 in her first collegiate indoor track meet.

With a mile time of 5:08.36, Laura Tabor '10 came in fourth place. Elizabeth Short '12 then anchored the second-place distance medley relay team by also running a 5:08 mile.

In the women's 60-meter dash, Olivia Durr '13 placed sixth against a tough sprints field after posting the best time of 9.24 in the semi-finals. Natalie Stoll '10 also ran an indoor personal best of 58.01 in the 400-meter dash, trailing Christiane Lela of the University of Ottawa by 0.13 seconds.

Emmaline Berg '13 finished third in the shot-put with a throw of 13.43 meters.

"Overall, I was encouraged with the way things looked," women's head coach Sandy Ford-Centonze said. "We did have quite a few athletes out due to injury, but we are looking forward to getting healthy and ready for Heps in February."

Dartmouth returns to the track this weekend in a dual meet against the University of Maine at noon on Saturday at Leverone Field House.

Both Big Green teams are preparing for the Ivy League Heptagonals Indoors Track and Field Championships meet which will be hosted by Dartmouth on Feb. 27-28.
