Kim announces changes to admin. structure

Kadish, who followed Kim to Dartmouth from Harvard University, has played an increasingly significant role at the College since he assumed his current position five months ago. Kim said in the e-mail that chief human resources officer Traci Nordberg, associate vice president for fiscal affairs Julie Dolan and director of operations management Lisa Celone, in addition to the Investment Office, will all now report to Kadish.

Dolan sits on The Dartmouth's Board of Proprietors.

Kadish will serve as the head of the College's finance and administration division, Kim said in an interview with The Dartmouth on Thursday. Kim said that he is "still working" on the College's administrative structure and that further changes may occur.

Before coming to Dartmouth, Kadish was director of the global health equity division at Brigham and Women's Hospital. From 2003 to 2006, he served as undersecretary for Health and Human Services for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Kadish's "experience with huge organizations going through changes" makes him well qualified for his new responsibilities, Kim said.

Keller, who has served as executive vice president since 2003, will become senior advisor to the president and provost. Keller will support the expansion of The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice and assist with "selected" strategic initiatives, according to Kim's e-mail.

"Any time there is a change as major as the president of an institution like Dartmouth College, you have to assume that positions and relationships are going to change over time," Kim said. "Every chief executive moves the pieces around a little bit."

Keller worked at Dartmouth Medical School in a variety of capacities, including chief financial officer and chief operations officer, before joining the College's central administration in the finance and administration division. He received a master's degree in public health from the University of Minnesota in 1981.

In an interview with The Dartmouth on Thursday, Keller said he worked with faculty to create "the predecessor of TDI" during his time at DMS, and said that he will draw on his previous experience with the institute in his new role.

"I think I can provide help with organizational issues there and make sure that the faculty voice is actively heard," Keller said.

While Keller will also advise Dean of the Faculty and acting Provost Carol Folt and Kadish on the second round of budget cuts, he said he will spend "the majority" of his time at TDI.

Keller was not a signatory on an e-mail sent yesterday to the Dartmouth community by Kadish and Folt outlining the coming budget planning process. Keller, together with former Provost Barry Scherr, oversaw the first round of cuts last winter and had been responsible for many of the communications to the Dartmouth community.

Kim also outlined further changes to the current administrative structure in his Thursday e-mail. Vice president for campus planning and facilities Linda Snyder Kadish's wife will now oversee campus planning, real estate, facilities, environmental health and safety, and sustainability. In her new role, Snyder will report to both Kim and Folt.

Snyder, who served as associate executive dean of physical resources and planning for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard before coming to Dartmouth this summer, will oversee the Class of 1978 Life Sciences Center and Visual Arts Center projects, among others.

"It just made sense to put all these responsibilities under the supervision of someone who is actually a professional in the field," Kim said.

The e-mail also announced that Marcia Kelly has been appointed secretary to the Board of Trustees.

Kelly first assumed this responsibility in an interim capacity when former Board secretary Cheryl Reynolds retired in June.
