Daily Debriefing

Dartmouth was ranked first in the Ivy League for study abroad participation in the Institute of International Education's 2009 "Open Doors" report. During the 2007-2008 academic year, 61 percent of Dartmouth students studied abroad, placing the College sixth in the ranking of all doctorate-granting institutions. A higher percentage of Dartmouth students have studied abroad annually over the past 32 years than at any other Ivy institution, according to historic data from the "Open Doors" report. Nationwide, the number of students studying abroad increased by 8.5 percent over last year.

A female Dartmouth student living in an off-campus apartment awoke in her bedroom to find an unidentifed man standing next to her masturbating, according a "Crime Alert" e-mail sent to students on Monday. The suspect, described as a six-foot tall male wearing a baseball cap, reportedly fled the scene after the woman screamed. Hanover Police and Safety and Security responded to the incident. The event is currently under investigation by the Hanover Police.

The University of Pennsylvania's endowment increased by 8.3 percent during the first quarter of the 2010 fiscal year, The Daily Pennsylvanian reported on Sunday. The endowment, which was valued at $5.6 billion as of Sept. 30, is within "6 to 7 percent" of its value before the current economic crisis, Penn's chief investment officer Kristin Gilbertson told The Daily Pennsylvanian. Penn administrators said that the university's plan to limit spending will remain in place for an additional nine months as scheduled, despite the financial rebound. The plan, which cuts spending for human resource activities and compensation, travel and advertising, has saved the university $54 million since its implementation in December 2008.
