The NCAA has passed new regulations on basketball recruiting to help prevent money going to third parties, ESPN.com reported. Coaches are no longer allowed to hire a person associated with a prospective student at camps or clinics or make donations to non-profit groups that a person associated with a prospective student has either proprietary or financial interest in, according to ESPN.com. The use of 1-900 numbers for recruiting purposes has also been banned. Coaches who violate the rules could be suspended from regular or postseason play, ESPN.com reported. None of the rules have yet been met with criticism, expect for suggestions that coaches only be able to hire students or staff members for camps or clinics. The rules are expected to pass a vote in April, Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe told ESPN.com.
