The Dartmouth field hockey team clinched a 3-2 double-overtime win against the University of Vermont on Wednesday to continue its three-game winning streak.

Meghan Everett '12 contributed two of the team's three goals, including the game winner, while co-captain Chelsea Dodds '10 added her first goal of the season. Kelly Hood '12 assisted on one goal, bumping her total points for the season to 23, and co-captain Virginia Peisch '11 assisted on another.

Going into the game, Dartmouth (4-4, 1-1 Ivy) was not fooled by Vermont's 1-9 record and expected a tough, physical match, Peisch said.

"We knew that they were much better than their record showed, and that they really wanted to win," she said.

Head coach Amy Fowler said the Big Green stuck to the game plan by maintaining high pressure on the offensive press.

"I'm very happy with how we executed that," she said. "We created a lot of our attacking chances this way."

Early on, Dartmouth dominated most of the play, but the team couldn't find the back of the net in the first 10 minutes. Eventually, the Catamounts capitalized on the Big Green's inability to score and drew first blood, as senior Megan Maynard set up senior Chelsea Stevenson for a goal.

Rather than sink into submission, however, the Big Green rallied. Within the next five minutes, Hood fired a pass to Everett, who put her finishing touch on the ball to lead it into the goal.

The game remained tied at one apiece for the next 36 minutes, as neither team could capitalize on its chances. Vermont was the first to strike again, with Catamount Brittanie Booker firing a shot past Dartmouth keeper Meagan Vakiener '12 to regain the lead.

With 18 minutes remaining, Dodds took advantage of a penalty shot, whizzing the ball past Catamount netminder Kristen Heavens, tying the game up at 2-2.

Heavens accumulated a total of ten saves during the game.

Dartmouth outshot the Catamounts 3-2 during the first overtime period, but neither squad could find the back of the net.

Five minutes into the second overtime, however, the Big Green proved its dominance. Everything came together after a corner shot, when Peisch retrieved the loose ball and dished it to Everett, who slammed the ball into the goal for the win. The goal was Everett's fifth of the season.

On Saturday the team will look to extend its winning streak at the University of Pennsylvania, where the team will take on the Quakers at 12 p.m. in Philadelphia.

Peisch said that she believes Penn is better than it has been in previous years, and because the Quakers have the home-field advantage, it will be a tough matchup.

"We just won our past three games, so we'll go into the game with a lot of confidence," she said.
