Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health and Catholic Medical Center in Manchester filed an affiliation agreement on Wednesday with the New Hampshire Attorney General's office, which will begin reviewing the proposal, according to WMUR. In recent years, the two organizations have worked together on a number of patient-care improvement and resource sharing initiatives, and in making the affiliation agreement, they said hope to formalize these types of connections and increase their communication, The Dartmouth reported in February, at the time of the announcement. Under the agreement, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health, which includes Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Clinic and other affiliated groups, will join the CMC Healthcare System, the holding company for Catholic Medical Center, WMUR reported. The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Clinic in Manchester will become part of the CMC Healthcare system.
Green Mountain Coffee of Waterbury, Vt., has awarded Dartmouth's Dickey Center for International Understanding's Global Health Initiative $141,000, according to a College press release. The grant will fund a three-year project that aims to improve health, sanitation and sustainable energy in the Kigoma region of Tanzania. The project will be overseen by Dartmouth's Global Health Initiative but will be carried out by the Humanitarian Engineering Leadership Projects Worldwide initiative, a student organization at the Thayer School of Engineering, according to the release. Student leaders in the HELP program will work with students at University of Dar Es Salaam College of Engineering and Technology to design more cost-effective and energy efficient models of latrines and cook stoves. They will also partner with coffee growers improve biomass technologies and spread the new techniques to other communities. The organization has also been funded by the Byrne Foundation, Penny and Bill Obenshain '62 and Gina and Tom Russo '77.
