The Dartmouth

Looking back: Karr

Editors' Note: Former and current editors, columnists and reporters of The Dartmouth Sports section from the Class of 2009 were asked to reflect on their experience with Dartmouth sports during the last four years.

You know, as fate would have it, my time at Dartmouth, and my time with The Dartmouth Sports section, is coming to an end. This is probably great news for many people who have read my worthless opinions with disdain, most notably the equestrian team and Cubs fans. But for those of you who still care an inkling about what I have to say once or twice a week on the back page of this newspaper, here is a quick summary of my favorite sports moments at Dartmouth.

I'll break this down between professional sports, college sports and amateur sports. Professionally, my favorite experience in the past four years was the Indianapolis Colts' come-from-behind victory over the dreaded New England Patriots in the 2006 AFC championship game. I was in Rome at the time, watching the game from an American bar open very, very late, and my only regret was not being in Hanover to see the dismay on all the Boston fans' faces.

In the realm of collegiate sports, my favorite moment was attending the Dartmouth vs. Boston College soccer game in the first round of the NCAA tournament this year. There are few more exciting events than an overtime shootout in soccer, and this one resulted in Dartmouth prevailing 4-2.

In amateur athletics, a couple weeks ago, the Hanover youth baseball team I coach won 1-0 on a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning. It was one of the most exciting games I've been a part of in my life. It's a rare occasion when two teams pitch a combined shutout through six-and-one-half innings, and I'm just happy it ended with a hard-earned victory over a very good team. These are just brief highlights of my time at Dartmouth many, many more experiences could have made the list.
