Track teams find success at Classic

The Dartmouth track and field teams posted strong results over the weekend at the Dartmouth Indoor Classic.

The athletes competed individually against contenders from an array of New England schools, including Sacred Heart University, Westfield State College, Keene State College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Middlebury College.

The men's team notched a string of notable performances in the track and field events with six first place finishes.

Attention fell upon Muhammed Abdul-Shakoor '10, as he delivered a first place finish in the 60-meter dash with a personal-best sprint of 6.95 and in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.75.

"Running my personal best last weekend was great after a week of hard work and attention to details," Abdul-Shakoor said.

Tim Edmonds '09 also captured the top spot in the 400-meter run, with a time of 49.71, and Julian Thomas '09 came in close behind him with a 50.87 second-place finish.

Brendan Norris '12 made serious strides toward his personal record, finishing the 800-meter run in first place with a time of 1:56.49.

In the men's shot put, David Irving launched a 17.26-meter throw that landed him in second place overall.

The Big Green women's team also delivered a strong showing, earning seven first-place finishes in the meet.

Dartmouth overwhelmed the competitors in the 400-meter run, sweeping the top-four spots. Alex Tanner '11 led the pack with a final time of 59.44, followed closely by Zawadi Rowe '12, who finished second with a time of 59.93.

The 4x400-meter relay team also dominated their event with a time of 3:59.53, taking home first place by a margin of ten seconds over the second place team from Sacred Heart.

The 4x800-meter relay team also came away in first place with a time of 9.38.95, beating out the Middlebury team by a sizeable margin of eight seconds.

Christina Supino '12 posted a first place finish in the 500-meter run, crossing the finish line with a time of 1:17.16.

Emily Daly '09 dominated the field events, racking up two firstplace finishes. Her 13.77-meter toss in the shot put and her throw of 16.25-meters in the weight throw netted big points for the Big Green.

Rounding out the victory tally was Lauren Ladolcetta '10, who added another first-place finish in the pole vault.

The indoor track teams will host the University of New Hampshire and the University of Vermont at 12 p.m. on Saturday in Leverone Field House.

"I think that this weekend will be a very competitive meet for all of our athletes," Abdul-Shakoor said. "We should fare well because we are all stepping up our game and pushing ourselves during workouts to perform at higher levels."

Dartmouth has competed as a team in just one meet this season, a tri-meet against Yale and Columbia last month. The Big Green took second, just five points behind the Bulldogs.
