The Dartmouth men (11-5, 1-3 Ivy) picked up their second consecutive 9-0 victory following a dominating performance against Hamilton College last Sunday.
This weekend's win was perhaps more significant, though, because it is the men's first victory in the Ivy League.
"This win is crucial for our team's confidence, especially after a tough loss to Cornell last weekend," co-captain Andrew Boumford '09 said.
Although Nick Sisodia '12, the men's team's number-two player, was sidelined with a minor injury, the Big Green men still dominated throughout the match.
Boumford and fellow captains Ted Newhouse '09 and Tyler Young '09 each won easily in three games at the number one, two and six spots, respectively.
Michael Lewis '11, Ted Schroeder '11 and Stephen Wetherill '12 all quickly disposed of their opponents as well.
The only matches that went to five games ended with Luke Lee '12 pulling out a 9-4 victory in the fifth game of his match at the number eight spot, and Michael Shrubb '10 clinching a victory at the number five spot with a 9-0 victory in his final game.
Boumford said the Big Green went into the match with confidence, and proved it could overcome some unexpected obstacles.
"Without Nick we had eight players step up to play higher positions," Boumford said, "Everyone came through to secure an expected jack-hammering. Our team's excellence is not in never falling, but rising every time we fall"
While the Big Green men celebrated their first Ivy League win, the women suffered their fourth-straight loss to an Ivy League opponent.
Contrary to the one-sided men's match, the Dartmouth women (7-6, 0-4 Ivy) played Brown extremely close. At the number-one spot, Hannah Conant '11 pulled out a five-game victory, winning 9-1 in the final game.
Following suit, captain Madeline Lurio '09 also finished her tight match strongly from the number two spot. After losing both of the first two games, 9-3, Lurio fought her way out of the hole, regrouping quickly and reversing the score by winning the third game by the same score.
Working off of renewed confidence, Lurio went on to win the next two games 9-4 and 9-2, securing the comeback.
Elizabeth Brown '10 and Danielle Fuschetti '10 provided the only other wins for Dartmouth at the number three and eight spots, respectively.
These wins left the Big Green just one win short of what was needed to win the match.
Maura Doherty '11, at the number four spot, came close to securing the much-needed Dartmouth win.
After taking the first game 9-2, Doherty fell in the second game, 9-6. This proved to be the turning point, as her opponent, Brown sophomore Sophie Scherl, went on to win the next two games, helping Brown clinch the match.
At the number seven spot, Caroline Lindseth '12 also fell in four games.
The Dartmouth women will continue to look for their first Ivy League win with road matches this weekend against Princeton and the University of Pennsylvania. The team will take on Princeton at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in Princeton, N.J., before heading south for an 11:00 a.m. match Sunday in Philadelphia, Penn.
The men's squad will also take on Princeton and Penn on the road this weekend. Both matches are scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
