On Saturday evening, July 12, Hanover Police, in conjunction with other area police forces and the New Hampshire State Liquor Division, setup four sobriety checkpoints in Hanover. Officers checked a total of 441 vehicles and gave 18 drivers field sobriety tests. This resulted in one arrest for driving under the influence and four other arrests on a variety of charges.
July 6, 5:43 a.m., West Wheelock Street
Hanover Police dispatchers received a call from a female who said there was a bat in her house and requested assistance to remove the animal. Five minutes later, the female called again and told the dispatcher that her roommates were still asleep and she did not want to wake them. She said she would call back later in the day if she needed assistance. She did not call back.
July 10, 8:42 p.m., South Main Street
The manager of Molly's Restaurant & Bar contacted Hanover Police when a patron attempted to purchase alcohol with what appeared to be a questionable ID. Officers determined the ID to be fake and arrested the 19-year-old for possession of a fake ID.
July 12, 10:23 p.m., Lebanon Street
At one of the four sobriety checkpoints, police forces arrested a male for driving without a license. After he was arrested, marijuana was found to be on his person. It was also determined that he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Hillsborough County, N.H. Before his car was towed, police did an inventory search and found more drugs.
July 12, 10:51 p.m., South Main Street
At the South Main Street checkpoint, officers observed bottles of champagne on the floor in a car being operated by a 19-year-old. Officers also found a fake Massachusetts non-driver ID in his wallet. The teenager was charged with transporting alcoholic beverages, unlawful possession of alcohol and possessing a false ID. The suspect might qualify for the diversion program on the alcohol charges, but must still go to court for his false ID.
July 12, 10:56 p.m., Allen Street
An officer assigned to detail a Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority event at Everything But Anchovies arrested an underage male who brought liquor in a cup to the event. The Dartmouth sophomore was charged with possession of an alcoholic beverage. The student has already been through the diversion program, so he will not be eligible a second time.
July 12, 11:56 p.m., South Main Street
At the South Main Street checkpoint, officers observed an open container of alcohol near a passenger in a vehicle. The passenger was also found to be in possession of marijuana. The suspect was charged with engaging in a prohibited act and possession of drugs. The driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged with driving after revocation or suspension.
