Co-captain Kristen Barry '08 was pleased with the team's level of play.
"We really connected as a team, from the sidelines to the defense to the attack," Barry said. "It just felt like more of a team effort today. I think definitely having this game after Brown was really important for us to stoke up our confidence going against Cornell, and I think we're just going to really work hard in the next few days to prepare ourselves and have a good game plan going in."
The Big Green (5-4, 1-2 Ivy) racked up 21 goals, with four players scoring hat-tricks. Kat Collins '11 led the team with seven goals and an assist, followed by co-captain Barry with five goals, Eliza Bennett '10 with three and three assists, and Cate Goytisolo '10 with three goals.
Dartmouth dominated Vermont in shots and draw controls. The Big Green had 31 shots to Vermont's 19, taking control in the second period with 15 shots to the Catamount's six. Draw controls also fell mostly to Dartmouth with a final tally of 20-9.
In addition, despite relatively few shots on Dartmouth's goal, the Big Green more than doubled Vermont's saves, 7-3. Dartmouth goalkeeper Julie Wadland '10 put up all seven saves.
The game began on a positive note with a goal from Collins three minutes into the first period. Vermont quickly responded to tie the score.
Another score from Collins started a 3-0 run for Dartmouth. Just over a minute after Collins' goal, Kathleen Wallace '11 passed to Bennett, whose goal put the score at 3-1. Soon after, Bennett found Greta Meyer '11, who brought the Big Green to a 4-1 lead.
After a goal by Vermont, Dartmouth went on another streak, putting up four goals before the Catamounts had a chance to respond. Goytisolo started the run with a goal assisted by Collins, followed in quick succession by Wallace, assisted by Meyer, and unassisted goals from Goyitsolo and Collins.
With just five minutes left in the period, Vermont put up a point. Less than a minute later, Bennett passed to Collins, who found the goal to bring the score to 9-3.
Barry quickly followed suit, and a minute and a half later, Bennett, assisted by Meyer, brought the score 11-3.
Vermont responded to the Big Green surge but was pushed back again by Collins, who found the net with a free position shot just seven seconds before the end of the half.
The Big Green squad started off the second half with a bang. Barry put in back-to-back unassisted goals in the first minute of the period, pushing Dartmouth to a 14-4 lead.
The Catamounts responded to the assault with a pair of goals, Vermont's final two goals of the game, bringing the tally to 14-6.
Less than a minute after Vermont's final goal, Barry retaliated, assisted by Bennett. The Big Green continued with a string of unanswered goals that carried the team through the end of the game.
Collins followed Barry with a goal before Barry struck again with her fifth goal of game, her 22nd goal of the season. Barry was assisted by Meyer.
Bennett then completed an unassisted hat-trick, scoring her 18th goal of the season.
Broghan Cully '11, assisted by Wallace, scored the next goal.
Collins her seventh goal of the game, her 15th of the season.
Barry remarked that the team will have to maintain a high level of play to be competitive with Cornell when the teams meet in Ithaca this Saturday.
"Our biggest challenge is going to be playing together as a team even when we're playing against some of the better teams," Barry said.
