Police Blotter

Mar. 26, 8:30 p.m.

School Street and Allen Street

While surveying Allen Street for suspected prohibited sales, Hanover Police observed a 21-year-old male exit a store and give a paper bag to a 20-year-old male. The police believed the bag contained a twelve-pack of beer. The male who accepted the package claimed that he was just carrying the bag for his of-age friend. The case is still under investigation.

Mar. 26, 8:53 p.m.

Allen Street

After being chased down by Hanover Police, a 20-year-old was charged with disobeying an officer, transportation of alcoholic beverages by a minor and possession of drugs, among other offenses. While on duty at Everything But Anchovies earlier that night, an officer saw a male in possession of a brown paper bag that appeared to contain alcohol. The male walked to the Hanover municipal parking lot, where he approached an occupied sport utility vehicle. After placing the bag in the rear left seat of the vehicle, the male got into the driver's seat of a red Honda and both cars began to leave. The officer signalled for the drivers to stop -- the driver of the SUV was intercepted by another patrol officer, though the driver of the Honda successfully exited the lot. The SUV was towed after police found a 20-year-old driver, two 20-year-old passengers and the brown bag from the earlier exchange containing two six-packs of Heineken. An inventory search of the vehicle later revealed a glass pipe containing what appeared to be marijuana residue, as well as another container for liquor. The driver of the SUV was charged but the passengers were not prosecuted. The Honda was found on March 31, at which point its driver confessed his involvement.

Mar. 27, 1:25 a.m.

East Wheelock Street

A patrol officer approached two individuals attempting to carry a male, who appeared to be intoxicated, up the steps of Psi Upsilon fraternity. Hanover Police reported that one of the individuals, a female, claimed she was just trying to take the male home. Upon investigation, however, Hanover Police discovered that the male was a 17-year-old prospective student. The patrol officer placed the prospective student under arrest but decided thereafter to transfer him to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. The prospective student is scheduled for a summons on April 22, though he is eligible for the alcohol diversion program.

Mar. 27, 2:01 a.m.

Mass Row

Dartmouth Safety and Security was called to a room in Mid-Massachusetts Hall to provide assistance to a 20-year old female, who was described as having projectile-vomited all over herself and the room. Safety and Security turned her over to Hanover Police, who transported her to DHMC. One Hanover Police officer described the scene as "pretty nasty." She is scheduled for an appearance in court on April 22, but is eligible for the alcohol diversion program.

Mar. 27, 5:24 p.m.

Greensboro Road

Hanover Police received a call reporting that a large pig was blocking the roadway. Hanover Police left a message for the owner, requesting that she corral her pig. There is no record as to whether the owner retrieved her animal.

Mar. 28, 9:00 p.m.

West Wheelock Street

An officer in uniform watched a college-aged male carrying four "30-racks" of Keystone Light meet a second college-aged male on Allen Street. When the second subject took possession of two of the cases, the officer radioed his supervisor. At this point, the males began walking towards West Wheelock Street, pursued by both the officer on foot and the supervisor in his cruiser. Upon being ordered to stop evading the police, the original possessor of the Keystone complied, but his companion, who was later found to be underage, continued onward, still carrying the two cases. When ordered again to stop resisting the officers, the second subject abandoned the alcohol and took off running. He was eventually apprehended by Hanover Police and charged with unlawful possession of alcohol. Although the primary college-aged male was of age, he may face charges for providing alcohol to the underage suspect.

Mar. 30, 2:37 a.m.

East Wheelock Street

While patrolling, Hanover police stopped a vehicle for lacking taillights. The driver, a male undergraduate, explained that he was returning to his fraternity, Theta Delta Chi, from a lacrosse game against Duke. The student further informed the officer that he had borrowed the car to take his girlfriend home. When the officer looked inside the vehicle, he observed the female, a 20-year-old, passed out in the passenger seat. Hanover Police reported that the female could not hold her head upright, slurred her words when questioned, and swayed from side to side after she was removed from the vehicle. Although she was clearly intoxicated, the female was unable to say how much she had had to drink. The female, who was charged with unlawful possession of alcohol and intoxication, is scheduled to appear in court on April 29, but is eligible for the alcohol diversion program. No charges were filed against the driver, and the car had been borrowed from a friend.
