against Brown, UNH, UVM and
Quinnipiac, the Dartmouth men's
track and field team managed to
squeak past Brown with a solid
performance in the meet's final
event. The Big Green women's
team picked up second place with a
strong showing by its underclassmen.
The Big Green men swept out
from behind Brown in an impressive
showing in the pole vault, the
last event of the night.
Derrick Vinklarek '08 took
second in the event followed
closely by Ken Dicairano '10 in
third, both with vaults of 4.58m
and Tim Wunderlich '09 in fifth,
vaulting 4.28m.
"Going into the event Brown
was ahead by 11 points," men's
head coach Barry Harwick '77
said. "But we managed 18 points
so that was enough to give us the
win."
Mike Carmody '08 took first
in the 500m run in 1:03:36, an
all-time best for Carmody and the
second fastest time in Dartmouth
history.
"Probably the single most
impressive per formance was
Mike [Carmody] in winning the
500[m]," men's head coach Barry
Harwick '77 said. "That moves
him into our all-time top five
list."
Brian Evans '08 picked up second
with 22.50 in the 200m dash, an
event in which he holds eighth in
Dartmouth's all-time listings, and
a first-place finish in the 60m dash
with a time of 6.99, placing him
seventh in Dartmouth history.
"[Evans] won the 60 meters,
and he broke seven seconds,
which was the goal we've been
shooting for," Harwick said.
Muhammed Abdul-Shakoor '11
also ran for third in the 60m with
a time of 7.09.
Kevin Treadway '10 ran the
mile in 4:15:27 for third.
Dar tmouth dominated the
800m run, taking first, second and
fourth.
Trevor Middleton '09 destroyed
his followers coming in with a
significant cushion, at 1:55.27, 2.09
before the secondplace runner,
Charlie Stoebe '08.
Dwayne Alexis '11 took third
for the Big Green in the 1000m,
finishing at 2:32.81, and Hari Iyer
'09 also picked up third for the
3000m with a time of 8:52.99.
Dartmouth finished first in the
4x400m relay and second in the
4x800m relay.
Noah Glick '11 and Andrew
Ching '10 tied for second in the
men's high jump with jumps of
1.93m.
Randy McKnight '08 did particularly
well for a first showing
this season, taking second in the
long jump with a distance of 22-
03.50.
"For his first time back in the
season he did very well," Harwick
said.
David Irving '11 placed fourth
in the weight-throw, hurling the
ball 53-06.25.
Harwick said he believes the
win is a good sign for the upcoming
league championship event, and
noted that, "We were obviously
very, ver y happy about it."
The Big Green women picked
up second in the meet, losing
to Brown by 64 points, with the
Dartmouth underclassmen putting
up a promising show.
Natalie Stoll '10 picked up
sixth in the 200m dash, finishing
at 26.63 and second in the 400m
run finishing at 58.65.
Alex Tanner '11 followed Stoll
in seventh in the 200m dash a time
of 26.85.
The Dartmouth women also
placed well in the one-mile run.
Laura Tabor '10 finished at 5:03.69
for first, while Caitlin Cunningham
'09 followed for second at 5:03.84.
Andrea Imhof '11 showed promise,
placing fourth for the Big Green
at 5:10.24.
Jessica Robson '11 took third at
a height of 5-04.25 in the women's
high jump.
Classmates Kaleigh Wood '11
and Lauren Campfield '11 took
second in the 500m and 800m
runs, respectively. Wood finished
at 1:17.17, and Campfield crossed
the finish line 2:16.83.
Monica Hernandez '10 finished
in second for the 3000m with a
good time of 10:14.18.
Dartmouth took second in the
4x400m, and 4x800m relays following
Brown on both occasions.
Natalie Todd-Zebell '09 vaulted
a 12-06.00, 6 inches higher than
the second-placed Brown vaulter,
to take first for the Big Green in
the women's pole vault.
The Big Green also placed well
in the shot put, throwing long to
take second and third. Emily Daly
'09 threw 44-08.25 and Jessica
Long '08 followed to land the shot
at 43-08.50.
Long and Daly also placed well
in the women's weight throw, picking
up second and fourth places,
respectively. Long threw 52-07.50
and Daly threw 48-03.50.
Looking forward to the league
championship tournament in two
weeks, the teams plan to spend the
next week training hard and then
use the week before the tournament
to rest up.
"I think we'll go in and get a lot
of good performances," Harwick
said.

in the league tournament,
USATF- New England, in Boston
on Sunday, Feb. 24.
