Peter Zhao '10 placed 4th of 1,600 students nationwide in an investment competition held by Updown.com in which students attempted to make the most money by each investing $1,000,000 of simulation money. The website, created by students at Harvard Business School, allows people to earn real money by performing well in simulations that mimic the stock market. Zhao, an economics and chemistry major, earned a 34 percent return on his money in the 10 weeks of the competition. He devoted a few hours each week to researching the stock market to make the most lucrative short-term stock picks. Deemed the "Facebook" of Wall Street, the site allows anyone to build a profile and comment about the stock market.

Dartmouth awarded 14 professors with endowed professorships for outstanding performances in their fields, according to Dartmouth Life newspaper. Government Professor John Carey received the John Wentworth Professorship in the Social Sciences, established in 1995 to recognize a professor whose teaching greatly enhances his or her field of study. French Professor Lynn Higgins received the Israel Evans Professorship in Oratory and Belles Lettres, one of the oldest professorships. Other award recipients include economics professor Kathleen McGarry, English professor Gretchen Holbrook Gerzina and computer science professor Hany Farid.

Judith S. Hodora, an admissions officer at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business, has been running an undergraduate admissions consulting business, according to Inside Higher Ed. After the school confronted Hodora, she discontinued the business, IvyStone Educational Consultants, and took down its website. In the same week, Hodora resigned from the advisory board of a Japanese company that assists people in gaining admission to high-ranking MBA programs. Hodora claims she has not been involved with the company since she accepted her position as an admissions officer.
