The men's lacrosse team had the best spring break in terms of wins, if not locale. The team spent its break in Hanover, where the Big Green hosted three games and came away with three wins to even its overall record at 3-3 and jumpstarted its Ivy League season. On March 3, Ari Sussman '10 scored three goals and led the Big Green past No. 17 Notre Dame 7-6 for the team's first win of the season. After a 16-7 win over the University of Vermont on March 20, Dartmouth began its Ivy League season with a battle against Brown. The quadruple-overtime bout was finally settled by Brian Koch '09 on a feed from Nick Bonacci '07. Koch's sudden-death goal gave the Big Green a 9-8 victory and a 1-0 start in Ivy League play. The win streak bumps Dartmouth into 21st place in the latest NCAA rankings, with Ivy League rivals Cornell in first and Princeton in seventh.
The women's lacrosse team did not fare as well as the men. The team lost games to the University of Maryland, James Madison, and Ivy League opponent Yale before winning its matchup with Columbia in a landslide, 11-5. The Big Green's record drops to 4-3 overall, and 1-1 in the Ivy League after their spring break struggles.
The men's tennis team had mixed success in its spring break travels in California. The Big Green started on a rough patch with lopsided losses to Iowa and Utah at La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, but bounced back with three straight wins over Loyola Marymount, Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara. Dartmouth's record moves to 14-3 after the trip, with Ivy League play beginning on Friday in Hanover.
Women's tennis had less success in Florida than the men did in California. The women were 1-3 over their tough schedule in which the No. 53 Big Green faced No. 27 Florida International and No. 39 Southern Florida. Dartmouth dropped the matches against the ranked opponents in identical 1-6 losses, and dropped a match to Central Florida, 3-4. The Big Green prevailed over Florida Atlantic 4-3. Ivy League matches begin on Friday, April 6, and Dartmouth faces Boston University in their final out-of-conference match of the season this Saturday.
Baseball traveled to Florida in a trip that started well for the Big Green but ended with a series of bad losses. The squad posted wins over Fairfield University and Massachusetts, and played Eastern Kentucky to a 1-1 tie on March 15-17. The next seven days brought seven losses for Dartmouth, the closest of which being three-run losses to Ohio State and Illinois. The team now posts a 3-9-1 record with one more out-of-conference tune-up on Wednesday before the Ivy League season begins on Saturday in a double-header against Columbia and Penn.
The softball team's spring break was shaped similar to that of the baseball team's. The team had mixed success early in their trip to Florida, with a wins over Ball State and two wins over Central Connecticut. The Big Green, however, lost their last six games on the trip as part of nine total losses. The team now maintains a 4-11 record with two games remaining before their Ivy League season begins.
With spring break behind them, teams will now return to balancing athletics and academics as Ivy League seasons approach.
