Accessories are my absolute obsession! Why are accessories important (and addicting)?
Well, spend two extra minutes thinking about which to add to your outfit and immediately you'll look pulled-together. Accessories can update and strengthen even a so-so ensemble and inevitably transform what you're wearing -- giving you more mileage from the clothes you already own.
Whether you prefer being quietly understated or love attention, completing your look is always a good idea. The best thing? You don't need a big budget to get amazing accessories. Here are some key pieces/trends/ideas for belts that the ever growing population of fashionistas at this school have already been looking hot in.
Remember that belts are versitle. Pair them with skirts and dresses, not just pants an shorts. Oh, and belts don't have to fit into the belt loops. Is it silly to remove the functional aspect of this accessory? Maybe, if you're a guy.
Belts tie the asthetic elements of your outfit together. Match simple styles to your shoes, bag, jewelry or hair accessories. Pair designed or dramatic pieces with simple outfits to highlight the belt's unique nature.
Cinch belts are currently the most fashion-forward. This style hugs your waist instead of your hips and, depending on the style, can add a sophisticated, modern, or punky flare ... so anyone can pull one off. Although they can be worn with fitted clothes, cinch belts usually look best with some of summer's looser styles, like billowy dresses or linen shirts (this trick will create the classic hourglass figure).
If you aren't ready for cinch belts, or just don't like them, don't worry. Hip-hugging belts add dimension and can be used to hold up pants (gasp! function!) or to show off your hips.
Always remember that, no matter how cute or how good the price is, fit has to come first or you will detract rather that add to your natural hotness. If a hip-hugging belt is so loose that it falls below the widest part of your hips and becomes a butt-hugging belt it will mess up your proportions and move around with every step you take. A cinch belt that's too big will make you look bigger in loose clothes and messy in tighter ones. And as with any article of clothing, just because you can squeeze into one size smaller, doesn't mean you should!
