Figure skating dominates field at UPenn Invitational

The win marks the last time the team will be in action before it skates at the U.S. Collegiate Championships in San Jose, Calif. the weekend of April 1-2.

Dartmouth has won the last two national championships, and if the skaters repeat, it will be their third consecutive undefeated season.

Captain Taylor Grant '06 scored 20 of her teams 110 points in winning all four of her events. She landed two double axels and a triple salchow throughout her two winning freestyle programs. Grant also won two dance events.

Teammate Holly Ponichtera '07 added 17 points with her three wins.

Hallie Damon '08, Katie Collins '06, Rachel Feder '09, graduate student Cynthia Chen and Dan Dittrick '08 also notched individual victories.

Other Dartmouth skaters who competed and added to the squad's total score were captain Katherine Kalaris '07, Lauren Morgan '05, Kate Schmidt '09, Nicole Newman '08 and Zoe Dmitrovsky '09.

With 110 points, Dartmouth easily bested the rest of the schools at the Quaker Classic. The University of Delaware managed 82 points to finish second. Cornell's 49 points gave them third place, while Boston University was fourth with 45.

Dartmouth coach Loren McGean '92 was proud of how her team blew away the competition.

"The Dartmouth skaters pulled off another amazingly strong set of performances this weekend," McGean said.

Delaware and Boston University will join Dartmouth and other figure skating clubs from across the country in San Jose.

"We're pleased, proud and ready to represent Dartmouth College at Nationals," McGean said, "We're all dreaming of a three-peat."

Dartmouth will have a chance to do just that this April in California.
