But on the other hand, many people are not sure how much they know about the NFL -- or if they eat.
In order to eliminate the cloud of mystery surrounding the nature of sorority girl NFL knowledge before this Sunday's Superbowl in Detroit, The Dartmouth assigned us to poll a random group of sorority members to handicap the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Seattle Seahawks' chances of winning the big game.
The study concluded that for the most part, Dartmouth sorority girls have very sensible NFL IQs, and more importantly that Dartmouth sorority members heavily favor the Steelers to win Super Bowl XL.
What is most striking about the poll's findings is that out of over 40 girls questioned, only a handful chose the Seahawks to prevail. Experts have chalked this partiality toward the Steelers to reasons that include an East Coast Bias, the fact that the Seahawks have a balding quarterback (ew! gross!) and an ancient Olmec secret.
Note: Some of the girls selected may or may have not been Facebook-stalked by us in the days leading up to this piece.
Additionally, some questioned are freshmen -- even though they are not members of sororities -- because they have little intuition about what and what not to say to The Dartmouth reporters.
Anyhow, here are some of the predictions made by Dartmouth's finest:
"The Steelers because they're a hot team right now -- even though I think Ben Roethlisberger is one of the most overrated quarterbacks in the NFL." -- Jessica Tory '06, Kappa Delta Epsilon
"Because I live in Philly, by the transitive property, I think the Steelers are going to win." -- Madeline Lurio '09
"I think the Steelers will be able to win. If they can beat the Broncos, they can beat the Seahawks. I don't think the Seahawks' defense is up to par" -- Kirsten Murray '07, Delta Delta Delta
"The Steelers ... I like them better." -- Meredith Raucher '06, Epsilon Kappa Theta
"Well I didn't really know who was playing, but now that you told me, I'd have to go with the Steelers. I heard they were good and I've never heard of the Seahawks. Clearly I don't know anything about football -- no use quoting me." -- Alisha Levine '07, Delta Delta Delta
"The Seahawks. They have prettier jerseys and their linemen look fatter. They will win in straight sets." -- Pamela Wendell '06, Delta Delta Delta
"I think the Steelers are going to win because they have a better record than the Seahawks (Editor's Note: No, they don't) And, also: [Steelers' QB] Roethlisberger's quarterback rating is first in the NFL this postseason, and obvi [Seahawks QB] Hasselbeck is second." -- Lydia Blandy '06, Sigma Delta
"The Steelers will win. It won't be because of Ben [Roethlisberger]'s arm and Jerome[Bettis]'s running. Their strong, underrated defense will be ready to play." -- Danielle Penabad '06, Alpha Xi Delta
"I pick the Steelers because of the intensity factor. A bunch of seagulls can't fly through a steel wall." -- Katie Dutko '09
"I'd bet my money on the Steelers. Also, I don't really think that 'sorority girls' would know any more or any less than girls that are unaffiliated. The sororities provide a pretty good cross-section of girls here." -- Claire Bickett '08, Kappa Kappa Gamma
