The 71st annual Ivy League Heptagonal Championships returned to Columbia's Baker Field Complex this past weekend as the eight track and field squads left it all out on the track.

Dartmouth men's track and field finally settled for a second place tie with Penn after leading the Ancient Eight in the mid-afternoon of Sunday following the results of 14 events. Cornell kept the John Baxter Taylor Trophy from last year, as both the men and women's teams took home the gold. The wins are the men's third-straight and the women's fourth in a row.

Dartmouth men's team, however, made a run for Cornell's title after a third-place finish following Saturday's action.

In the 100-meter dash finals, Fatih Stanley '07 finished fourth, while Mike Carmody '08 -- seeded first after trial heats -- clocked 1:52.55 to finish third in the 800-meter run.

In the 1500-meter run, Ben True '08 finished the race in 4:15.87 to earn fourth place in the close race.

In the grueling distance runs, Brian Hanley '05 came in sixth place in the 5,000 meters, while teammate Dave Burnham '06 finished fourth in the 10,000-meter run.

Mustafa Abdur-Rahim '04 captured a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdle finals, despite having the fastest trial times.

In the relays, men's 4x100 meter relay team took second while the 4x400 squad finished fourth overall.

Defending champion Brian McCarthy '05 finished fifth in the high jump with a 6'8.25" leap.

In the shot put, Robert Kerris '07 and Matt Brown '05 scored points for Dartmouth, finishing third and fifth respectively. Kerris and Michael Mozer '05 took third and fourth place in the discus throw.

Sean Furey '04 took the gold in men's javelin with a monster throw of 227'1", more than 20 feet better than the second place finish.

In the hammer throw, defending champion Mozer threw 173'11" to finish second, while classmate John Moran '05 took third place in the same event.

In the multi-events, Andrew Hall '05 won the decathlon with 6,720 points while Tyler Koskenoka '07 took fifth place with 6,491 points.

On the women's side, Dartmouth finished seventh with 45 points after a sixth-place finish after first day's events.

Kelsey Wiegmann '06 broke her own school record of 147'11" at the javelin with a 151'5" throw to win first place. Wiegmann also finished second in the heptathlon. Wiegmann's 5'5" leap in the high jump would have been good for fifth place if she had fewer tries.

Jessica Long '06 took fifth in the same event while classmate Melanie Schorr '06 finished fifth for the Big Green in the 3000-mete run.

Hilary Dionne '05 finished sixth in the 10,000-meter run, while classmate Tessa Clare '05 captured third in the high jump with a 5'7" jump.

Melissa Machaj '05 took sixth place in the hammer with a 142'1" throw while classmate Megan Olds finished eighth overall in the 800-meter run after a strong showing at the trials.

Matthan Chatterton-Richmond '06 finished fourth in the long jump, fifth in the triple jump and managed a third place finish in the heptathlon.

In the pole vault, Lilly Bertz '07 finished fifth with a 10'11.75" jump.

The women's 4x400 meter relay team finished sixth while the 4x100 meter squad took seventh in the finals.

In the heptathlon, four Big Green athletes finished in the top six. Wiegmann finished second with 4,760, marginally missing first place. Matthan Chatterton-Richmond, Jadah Chatterton-Richmond '07 and Kara Pydynkowski '06 finished fourth through sixth in the multi-event.

A few members of the track and field teams will participate in this weekend's New England Championship at UNH, while the NCAA Outdoor Championships is only a month away.
