To the Editor:
I would simply like to remark that Timothy Mark's letter to the editor ("A Racist School," The Dartmouth, October 26) concerning Dartmouth being a "racist school" is completely ridiculous. The only person being racist is Marks. Not once did anyone mention the ethnic constitution of the area surrounding Columbia. The vast majority of students at Dartmouth and those who responded to Kwame Spearman's article, including myself, have no idea about what the neighborhood around Columbia is like. They were merely playing off the same kinds of stereotypes that typify Spearman's article, stereotypes concerning crime in New York City. That isn't racism. Frankly, I am getting a little tired of the type of overzealous political correctness that makes it hard to even step out the door these days without being labeled as some kind of demagogue.
