To the Editor:
Regarding the "notable lack of heated discussion" during the Sommers lecture mentioned in the May 2 article "Sommers: Gender feminism 'destructive,'" this lack was due to the choice by the Women's Resource Center and professors in the women's and gender studies department to be absent from the lecture. Dr. Sommers is a well respected feminist who offers a fair challenge to many claims made by gender feminists. By their absence, professors in the Gender Studies department proved Dr. Sommers correct -- many feminists are less interested in true debate than in cant and biased teaching.
