The College's Board of Trustees is slated to focus on tuition fees, affirmative action and facilities planning at its quarterly meeting, set to conclude Saturday.
Vice President of Public Affairs Bill Walker said much of the meeting will be spent on routine events. These include the Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity's presentation of the College's annual affirmative action program and the release of a progress report on Dartmouth's planned facilities.
The Trustees will also receive a progress report on the College's budget plan, Walker said, although a vote for the upcoming fiscal year will not take place until Spring term.
Last term's meeting focused on facilities improvements. The Trustees voted then to approve renovations and additions to Dartmouth's Child Care Project, Alumni Gym and Thayer School of Engineering.
Walker added that he expects the Trustees to set tuition fees for the 2003-2004 academic year at this weekend's meeting.
When asked about the College's impending capital campaign, Walker said, "There is a meeting of the Board's development committee [this weekend], and they generally do discuss fundraising progress there."v dfsdaws
Students will have two chances to meet with the Trustees this weekend. "The Board is meeting with a group of students at a committee meeting on Friday, and they'll also be having an informal breakfast meeting on Saturday for students that have signed up," Walker said.
"The Trustees will also have a luncheon meeting with the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Committee on Organization and Policy," he added.
The Winter term meeting serves as Trustee Chair Susan Dentzer '77's second-to-last in her current position, as her tenure as chair ends June 30. Dentzer will not leave the Board, but will instead serve a one-year term as a charter Trustee. In June, charter Trustees David Shipler '64 and David M. Shribman '76 will leave the Board after two five-year terms.
At the beginning of March, Dartmouth's 60,000 alumni will decide whether Elyse Allan '79, John J. Donahoe '82 or Richard W. Lewis '84 will fill the vacancy left by Dentzer's departure as Trustee Chair.
