Sororities close out rush week

Sophomore women became sorority members last night, as many sunk their bids at six sorority houses, concluding this year's winter rush.

Over a week ago, some 238 women began the process, and by the end of rush 224 women had received bids, according to Shevani Jaisingh '03, vice-president of the Panhellenic Council and a former member of The Dartmouth staff.

"Everyone who started round one was given a bid unless they dropped out earlier in the process," said Rho Chi coordinator Christine Sebourn '03. "All the women that went to Pref Night received bids."

All the houses offered 35 to 39 bids to '05 women, but the number of women who actually accept their bids will not be available for a couple of weeks, Jaisingh said, because women are given a period of time at each house to deliberate.

Alpha Xi Delta sorority gave 39 bids, Delta Delta Delta sorority gave 38, Epsilon Kappa Theta sorority gave 35, Kappa Delta Epsilon sorority gave 38, Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority gave 37 and Sigma Delta sorority gave 35, according to Jaisingh.

"The fact that we were able to match all women with a house shows the openness of the Panhellenic system," Jaisingh said.

"The process was extremely successful in large part due to the efforts of Christine Sebourn and all the recruitment chairs."

The success of the Panhellenic Council in matching every woman who finished rush with a house has not always been the case in years past, when some women were unable to receive bids.

This year every woman who continued the process from Round Zero through Round Two and went to Pref Night received a bid.

"It's always a goal of the council to absolutely try our hardest to give every woman a bid," Jaisingh said.
