Hoverman named to All-Academic team

A few days after receiving word that she had been named to the New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association All-Star Team, Dartmouth's Carrie Hoverman '01 received further good news. Yesterday, the Big Green first baseman was selected as a member of the Verizon Academic All-District I Women's Softball Team.

Ten student-athletes are selected to the first team, and they all become eligible for the national Academic All-America team. Hoverman was one of two Ivy League players to receive the honor, being joined by Kristen Maturo of Yale.

Hoverman is an economics major at Dartmouth and currently has a 3.28 grade point average.

The senior was one of Dartmouth's best hitters all season long, finishing tops on the team with a .344 batting average, first with a .544 slugging percentage and second in on-base percentage with a .400 mark. Hoverman added plenty of run production with five homeruns, 27 RBI and 10 doubles to go along with 28 runs scored.

Hoverman finished her career as the school's all-time leader in walks with 52, and she is currently in the top three in Dartmouth history in hits, runs and RBI.

This has been a season of many individual accolades for Hoverman, who was named to the all-tournament team during the early season George Mason Invitational. The Big Green senior also received a second-team All-Ivy League selection.

Hoverman helped lead Dartmouth to its second straight 20+ win season and the most Ivy victories in the history of the program. Dartmouth finished the year at 23-19 with a 9-5 mark in the Ancient Eight.
